![]() So the fan on my MB went out while i was sleeping and it got fried, i am currently trying to figure out replacing it. However my 52 mage is dead in Lake lll omen soooo i am not sure what to do because the corpse will decay before the replacement MB gets here in the mail....So i guess what i am asking is for anyone who reads this to please contact Durison or any TMO officer to PM me on the boards or to check their PMs. Also if anyone sees maxpower or maxpowers running around PLEASE ask him to IM me. THanks in advance for anyone who helps.

![]() Motherboards don't have fans, so it may have been your processor's heat sink/fan assembly that went out. Your processor then probably proceeded to get very hot and melt the seating. However, most computers have an auto shut off feature at 113C.
Given all of that, I would look around in your PC more to make sure what actually failed. Look for obvious things like charred areas and broken solder points. Don't be afraid to sniff components too; There's nothing like the smell of melted circuit board coating. Start with your power supply. Edit: McBard is right, habitually typed 113F.

![]() Pretty sure you mean 113C (not sure if that's really true either think it would differ by cpu). 113F is pretty much normal operating temp for most CPUs.

![]() This story seems weird, you should make sure that is your issue. I can't imagine how a system board would get fried by a fan going out. You're going to get a new mobo and probably realize your cpu is what was fried but even that dying because of a heatsink fan is a long shot if it's idle the temps are pretty low (or should be).
Question, do you use any kind of power protection? aka a good quality surge protector? If you can't even post it's probably you're PSU. Also @SwordNBoard Asus sabretooth boards have a spot to mount a 50mm fan right on the board.

![]() So this is what i can describe from my limited knowledge and terminology. Not only is the fan on the sink of my processor out so is the fan on my video card. So i open it and i use a normal box fan to blow into it and it work just fine. Anyway, i normally turn the comp and the fan off at night but i forgot to turn the comp off that night like i do sometimes and it never matters if EQ is not running. Soo anyway, i wake up and on the moniter it reads "out of range" but its not a msg being sent from the CPU. I restart, the screen comes up and everything is screwy and then it goes to this red geometic pattern then back to the "out of range" msg. So i assume it's the video card, i go out get a new video card, get it mounted, turn on the comp and the monitor gives me a msg that saying that nothing is connected to it. From talking to friends they said that sounded like a mother board problem. I found nothing charred or any burning smell. any ideas?

![]() Definitely sounds like a video card issue. With it saying no signal on the second card, I'm nearly stumped. Unless you have an onboard video card that needs to be disabled, or your old card is still mounted as well. Or.. the 'new' one is defective. Double check your VGA cable connections?
Or perhaps, it is your motherboard/video card slot (AGP/PCIe) itself.

![]() Check the specs of the video card for recommended wattage from your psu, if the card isnt being recognized it might not be getting enough power, also make sure you have the supplemental connectors plugged in on the pcb if the card requires them which most all of them today do.
and yea make sure your card matches the on board slot, although I can't imagine how you plugged it in if it was a different form factor. The only time to buy a new motherboard is if you're making a whole new build, 99.99999999999% of the time the problem is elsewhere. Next time you post put the type of gpu you're running, and your psu size, also is the cpu heatsink stock or aftermarket? Just list all your specs lol plz.

![]() If both fans aren't working, it could be a voltage issue. If you've inserted a new video card, and any fan continues to be unresponsive, check your power supply. Also (this needs to be said), since you've likely been unplugging things to troubleshoot at this point, ensure that everything is plugged back in where it needs to be. Sounds simple, but it happens.

![]() Don't run your computer with a box fan either... fans are meant to draw hot air away from your important parts (at a very high rpm mind you) not blow air at it. Sounds like you were just asking for something bad to happen imo.
