i've heard a few things about these, I am curious as to exactly what they were that we DL'd and slapped onto our computers unknowingly...... I've heard only negative things about these.......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic-link_library

If you're further interested, I suggest searching your windows-based PC for *.dll.

Anyways, moved to technical discussion as this is a technical question.

thank you. i sort of understand what they are, but i keep hearing that there were ones that were included in the last patch that have hidden programs in them...... is there truth to this?

I would like clarification on the specific dll file that we downloaded for the patch for p99. Thanks!

A dynamic link library is a library of information for a program.

So imagine this: You went to the library, and bought the book EverQuest Essentials (exe). Then, you find out the book has a sequel, and this sequel extends the capabilities of the first book and gives you more information on it. (dll).

Now, let's say the book had information about Brown Skeletons that was wrong. That book has a revised version (dll) that corrects the book and fixes the information. That is what a .dll does, it contains knowledge that an .exe may not already have. So yes, a program is inside of a .dll. Does that answer your question?

Furthermore the DLL does not collect personally identifiable information, if that was a concern at all.
