I've seen in previous threads that no one really knew for sure the mechanics of mez (if resist rate had a charisma component) and was also curious about what, if anything affected the blur rate. So I ran some tests with my 60 chanter on the effects of cha for the level 4 mesmerize spell. Not the biggest sample size but I feel like it gives a good idea.
What better place to test for a chanter than chardok? Brought "A Di`Zok Cryptmaster" to the slave pits and chain mezzed him in relative safety. I picked that mob because wiki says they're 53 so at the absolute range of what charm can work on. It works both from a practical stand point and it isn't so low that the level gap will annihilate all its defences. Keep in mind the wiki has been inaccurate for me in chardok and mob levels tend to have a range so might not exactly be 53. All tests were conducted with the same mob. A Di`Zok Cryptmaster 255 charisma ----- 123 casts 23 resists 43 blurs So about 20% resist rate and 40% blur rate on base mez when cha is capped. A Di`Zok Cryptmaster 85 cha ----- 125 casts 25 resists 19 blurs With naked cha the resist rate seems the same surprisingly but the blur rate was half the value I got with capped cha. So it would appear charisma has no impact on the resist rate but does have a significant effect on blur. At this point I was kind of wondering how much -MR would help. A Di`Zok Cryptmaster 255cha + tash ----- 109 casts 9 resists 53 blurs About half the resists there unsurprisingly. This also confirms the mob had some MR to begin with, about 21 according to the eqemu table. 10 more blurs so about a 25% difference so I guess MR also has a significant effect on blurring. With -MR having an effect on blur I figured I should test on a mob that would absolutely be bottomed out both by level gap and by -MR to get a comparison. "An insane slave" 255cha + tash ----- 100 casts 0 resists 95 blurs Oh okay... so I guess there is a ~5% floor on non blurs. What about a green that isn't a high green but still close of being blue. "a Di`zok Underling" (43) ----- 100casts 0 resists 64 blurs Ok so a bit more blurs than the crypmaster. So it would seem like level 4 mez has a 5% non-blur floor and it probably increases somewhat linearly with mob level. Other interesting thing to note: from what I read in the eqemu code, when there's a positive level difference for a player over a mob it helps with resists and that caps at -9. A low 50 mobs will have about 21MR. So basically, once tashed, anything below 51 will have near 0 resists and then it starts going up every level after that, which tracks with experience. I always try to tash everything but sometimes it is more appropriate for various reason to land a slow/mez first. A level ~53 mobs will have about 20% chance to resist said spell if no -mr modifier which, in my opinion, is a rather important fact when dealing with mobs in that level bracket and we can only assume it gets higher as they go up in level. | ||
