Default The THJ Lawsuit should make a lot more sense now.

Trailer in the link, but here's the article text in case you don't want to click:

Quote:
True to its name, EverQuest hasn't let the questing end since 1999, but it's been a minute since a big new EverQuest project appeared aside from expansions to the existing MMOs. The last was EverQuest Next, which was cancelled in 2016.

Finally, Daybreak's got something new for us, but what's next this time is what was: Coming this July, EverQuest Legends is vanilla EverQuest as it was originally released before any expansions, with all the same challenges, graphics, and sounds lovingly restored from 1999—but with a twist.

Daybreak is making bigger changes to the original experience than Blizzard did with WoW Classic, heavily buffing player characters to let solo players or small groups experience everything the game has to offer without having to recruit 30 friends to go kite fire giants and kill Lord Nagafen.

Players will choose their race as normal, but will start with two classes, sorta like multiclassing in Dungeons & Dragons. After the briefish journey to level 10, they'll even get a third. Characters will keep all the skills, spells, and disciplines from their initial class, making an individual character much stronger than their true classic equivalent. Imagine playing a wizard that can quad kite with bard speed and give herself clarity, or a warrior who brings his own mage damage shield and shaman buffs. Being able to freely choose three classes opens a truly staggering number of combinations, and it should be an absolute feast for theorycrafters.

Including ours, potentially ... why would Daybreak want P99 operating a free server that directly competes with their paid one?

They certainly didn’t want a multi class competition.

But they certainly created one.

On the bright side, this is like some serious 1990s competition in the classic MMO space now. We have Aporia’s MMO (Thj creators). We have a live classic request MMO monsters and memories. I mean, this is like pretty exciting if you think about it.

because p99 is for the hardcores that have 8-10+ hours a day and want to poopsock raid mobs, get batphones at 3am and race for FTE.

this is for casuals. p99 will still be the same garbo unfriendly place after this server comes out

You missed my main point. I don't care if THJ or any other free server gives people options:, for casuals or anyone else: that's only good for everyone overall.

My concern is that P99 won't have updates, won't get new servers, and may even get shut down. Rogean is going to this new server and DBH has a major financial incentive to limit or close any competition ... neither is good for P99's future.

Looks enjoyable -- They are pulling in Rogean and Secrets too which is neat.

So Game Jawn is a game studio where games are their jam/jawn. Specifically, EverQuest. It’s a new studio that spun up last July composed of experienced members of the EverQuest emulation community. Those really into the EverQuest emulator scene may be familiar with some of the names I’m about to list off: Eda “Secrets” Spause as the project director and lead engineer, Sean “Rogean” Norton as senior engineer, and Rae “Ailia” Brewer, lead technical designer. They’ve all been playing EverQuest since 1999 and never stopped, to the point that they’ve made multiple EverQuest Emulators over the years, including Quarm and P99. They are joined by Daybreak’s David “Sysyphis” Youssefi, who functions as the executive producer. He’s also an EverQuest player who never quit.
