Why do forum people hide who they are in game?

Is it like a minigame to figure out who is who in game? Or are you scared people will know who you are and harass you in Norrath? I guess it also has something to do with people having multiple forum accounts they use, which is sad. Why would you need more than one forum account?

My forum name is the same exact name in-game.

I've had random send me tells in game telling me crazy (understandable).

I'm 180 degrees a different person in game than on the forum. I'm polite, generous, and respectful in game.

I agree having multiple forum accounts is weird

Some people might worry any political or other controversial opinions expressed might cause issues within their guild. Even for Leftists who have political opinions that are generally pushed by mainstream media, Hollywood, etc as socially acceptable, they may still be worried about alienating any potential conservative guild members. If the poster is a conservative, then concern for pissing guildmates off in game for WrongThink is much more valid IMO
