![]() HI All -
Glorious little project you have going on here. I have been mucking around with various low level characters, trying to decide on which route I am going to take on my journey here. I really only have time to play one character seriously and am torn between what I am good at and going somewhere new. I played live EQ on the testserver primarily and my main was an untwinked Troll Warrior, that I got up to level 55 (so you know I am a sucker for punishment). I have been spoiled a bit with the TLP servers as leveling is fast and furious and the UI and gameplay (loot, etc.) is so smooth and easy. This is clouding my character making here. 1) My highest level character is an enchanter at level 33. Super fun class, good solo and group friendly, but also (by reading these forums) sounds like there are plenty of them that they are tripping over each other and that makes groups hard to find on p1999. 2) Second highest level character is a ranger at 30 - Very fun melee class, but reading the boards here are badder than bad in this era. 3) Third highest class is a Wizard (level 28) and has been the most fun to play so far - last night in basement unrest I was doing between 30% and 60% of every mobs health bar (clarity cast on me AND a clarity pot) and absolutely melting mobs. However, reading the boards here, Wizards are also useless, and shelved just to be used as porters. (Why is that? Do they not do the crazy damage they do on TLPs?) 4) Fourth Highest character is a 17 Gnome SK and super duper fun as well but of course not optimized for tanking (after reading here, should be an Ogre!). Heck, I don't even know if you can roll a gnome SK on P1999. 5) I also have a 9 Cleric and 7 Shaman as I was toying with healing classes. I am torn between a new adventure (monk or bard maybe?) or picking one of the above and having a go of it all. Either way currently playing around with an Enchanter, Bard, Wizard and Cleric and about to make a Troll SK for solo nostalgia. Eventually I will settle in on one, and until then, will gladly take all suggestions, love, and thoughts from the community. Cheers!

![]() Go with the class you have the most fun with and suits your playtime most.
Being able to solo is a big plus if you can only play for short periods of time. Enchanter is a very versatile class and and can do almost "everything". Solo and a much wanted class in groups (holy trinity)

![]() Playing on blue there literally isnt a lack of any characters. Come to red.

![]() Just wondering, why doesn't rogue appear on your list? As someone who basically hates every class except rogue, I'm curious

They say (here) that rogue is terrible as a player who may have to solo and will be untwinked. Since I am starting completely naked the advice seemed to be caster until you get high enough to give your melee classes a leg up. As mentioned, I read too many boards. I have never played a rogue in EQ =)

I loved DAOC for PVP back in the day. I wouldn't even know where to start when thinking about rolling on a red server (class wise).

![]() The first question to ask yourself, OP, is your plan to just get to end-game and raid? If the answer is yes, then logging in and talking with the GMs of some raiding guilds, or checking their recruitment ads would help you decide. Class will be much more important if that is your number one priority in coming to the server. If you are just here to play around and aren't necessarily planning to raid, then play whatever moves you.
At least up through level 40 or so, every class is in demand, because people want to group and do stuff (unless you are looking to solo). I do know that some classes are in higher demand come later levels, but that is where the first question I asked comes in play. And a positive personality and showing teamwork/playing your class well will get you groups even later in levels; and you are more likely to be positive or play your class well on a class you are more excited about than one that you are playing just because you want a raid spot at max level.

I basically play for fun and do my part to make the experience fun for others. It's a game, that should be free of drama, and full of laughs.

![]() Spells on the TLP server are much stronger for the most part than they are here (many 1-60 spells were changed around the TSS expansion to make leveling easier). They also have focus effects on the TLP which we do not here. Your ranger on the TLP also has more spells and higher skill caps than here.
That said, I don't think it's a good idea to pick a class based on strength or server need. You should definitely play a class that fits your play style and that you enjoy playing. Zero classes are non-viable, and any class can be useful when played to their strengths. I made the mistake of rolling my monk based off how strong the class is, and my rogue based off server need... both are now collecting dust while I have FUN playing a ranger.
