Default A connection to the server could not be reached...

Hey all,

I am a returning member to P99. I recently moved and have not played in quite a while. I tried to reinstall Everquest p99 so that I could play again in my free time, but I'm having some difficulty. I have already tried the following to fix my problem:

1. Reinstalled Titanium and followed the instructions on the "getting started page" on p99 twice.

2. Followed all of the instructions on the FAQ including updating all of my drivers (especially my networking card).

3. Attempted changing the EQhost.txt to login2.eqemulator.net:5998 (as instructed in one of the other forum posts).

4. rebooted my computer, modem and router religiously.

5. Turned off my Avast BEFORE even starting the installation on titanium and kept it off.

6. Turned off my windows firewall (and kept it off throughout all of this).

7. Attempted using EQemulator, but I have the same problem (the emulator cannot even connect using the web browser).

8. Obviously tried adding patchme to the end of the target name in properties of the eqgame.exe shortcut as it is in the FAQ.

9. I am trying to run the game from my house and I'm 99% certain that my 5998 port is NOT closed.

10. I have tried running the EQgame.exe shortcut as both Administrator and not as Administrator.

Anyway, I'm really not sure what else I should try. Any help would be much appreciated.

The error message I'm receiving is, "A connection to the server could not be reached. Please check your internet connection to make sure you are online."

Thanks EQ Fans and wish me luck I really want to play again!

This is my EQhost.txt file copy and pasted:

[LoginServer]
Host=login.eqemulator.net:5998

Are you adding the Patchme to the file or the actual shortcut you are using to launch the game? Cause its suppose to be the shortcut you add it too and not the actual eqgame file in the folder.

I added it to the shortcut. There's no "target" within properties to add to the actual file.

Something strange and possibly related to my problem is occurring. I cannot connect to skype. I uninstalled it and tried to redownload the installer, but it's giving me a connection error. I'm having the same problem with different sites as well... Any ideas? This has never happened before I started trying to install the game.

That sounds like a firewall problem tbh but I've been known to be wrong. I'm like a doctor that blames every illness on smoking.

Check your firewall logs. If you have added the p99 folder (the whole folder) and Skype to your firewall exceptions, remove them and re add them - that worked for me on one of the AVs I tried.

I can't help you with your naughty sites XD

I'll try that.... but I'm fairly certain the only firewall I have is the windows firewall and I turned that off... I'm so confused as to what is happening. I'm going to try and install the stuff on my other comp and see if I still have the same problem.

Yeah but you would still have to add an exception after turning it back on [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Poke around in Avast. The version I just tried came with a firewall. If both that and your windows firewall are now on it will cause a conflict.

Let me know how you get on [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

So, in attempts to make certain that this was a windows firewall/avast problem. I uninstalled Avast and turned off my Windows firewall completely. I have also now tried to install the game on my other computer and am having the same problem. I also uninstalled Avast and turned off my windows firewall on my other comp b4 installing anything or doing anything EQ related. I'm not sure if this information will help, but on my other comp when I start the everquest.exe it will bring up the "patching everquest" box, but it will never connect.
