Default Confessions of an RMT'er

Make that, former RMT'er. As much as this may end up sounding like a public service announcement, I just wanted to give my thought's and opinions on my P1999 experience thus far. Only been on about a month or so now, joined after some friends I played EQ live with back in 2000-2004ish recommended it to me. Had a great time playing, but forgetting how daunting EQ can be to start from scratch, I ended up buying PP "to tide me over and give me a competitive advantage, yadda yadda yadda". I actually didn't know that it was against the rules, which is completely my fault for having not read them entirely. I was under the impression it was one of those things they wouldn't reimburse you for if you got cheated/scammed, but didn't know it was bannable offense.

As you may have guessed, I found this out the way my fellow RMT'ers did a week or so ago during the great RMT purge. I was banned, like so many others. I took the time to send in a petition to the GM's, not to have my account unlocked, or blame my ignorance as an excuse, but to apologize for my actions and ask how to start over legit. Looking back, I honestly think it was one of the best things to happen to me, as cheesy and/or unbelievable as that may sound. With no more infinite source of income at my disposal, I no longer feel that pressure or need to buy that next better piece of gear, or because of my gear, the pressure, even if self imposed, to level up at a frantic pace.

Life post ban has been slow paced, relaxing, and a lot of fun so far. Made a new account, and rolled a new character. Having nothing to start with, I embraced tradeskills, which is something I never did, even back in EQ live. Heck, I'd probably have a lot of money if I hadn't leveled my tailoring, brewing, and blacksmithing. There is definitely something satisfying in wearing armor and using tools you made yourself, something I wouldn't have experienced or cared to experience had I continued to buy PP. Met some awesome people this time around, people I probably wouldn't have talked to before while I was solely in pursuit of more money/better gear.

That's really all I've got. I didn't make this thread looking for validation, vindication, or sympathy, but to speak on my short time in P1999. I messed up, broke the rules, took my medicine, and started over. Thank you again to the GM's for the work you do, and all the great people I've met along the way!

What was your toon's name and level?

Always nice to know which people disappeared as a result of the ban vs just randomly quitting for awhile.

No one anybody would know. Only had 3 characters, all in early/mid teens. Those characters, much like my shady past, are gone forever. I guess I mainly made the post I made to give a quasi-face to what I'm sure is the average RMT'er. I didn't do what I did maliciously, or try and scam anyone. I also don't think I'm some kind of scum of the Earth as some people would have you believe RMT'ers are. I freely admit my mistakes, for all of you to see, and won't make them again. I guess I just wanted to get it off my chest a little.

Dude is being real. Faced consequences of violating rules, rerolled and enjoying classic eq the real way. Nothing to see here.

This wave of RMTers certainly opened my eyes, the amount of people who bought plat in their first week or so etc. People who came here for a classic EQ experience, and looked to twink themselves out from the beginning

Totally missing the point of coming to P99 I think. It's in RMT sites interests not to see a new server it seems, that mudflation is making people get their credit cards out :/

Why do some people keep calling P99 a beta? P99 beta happened 5 years ago, you missed it.

The server at this point in time is not planned to be wiped after Velious has been played to death. Those decisions are happening when that time comes.

TLDR: THIS IS NOT A BETA

Obv. the term is being used loosely, a lot less loosely than it is being used in other areas of the gaming world. Btw some people think tomatoes are actually vegetables and Pluto is a planet...

Thanks for the various replies and responses. I was being honest and sincere in my OP. I wasn't begging for gear/money or trying to tug at people's heartstrings and looking to justify my actions. I messed up. I blew it. I accept it. I've moved on and am really enjoying myself thus far. I'm not posting my new characters name in thread, since I really am trying to turn a new leaf here, and don't want to be associated with my former shady self haha.

I havn't been here in years, is the server still active enough to make finding groups at all levels viable? I'm thinking about rolling a mage or a cleric, but I don't want to box and all my friends are playing ESO, which I found to be kinda lame.
