sham question.

im deciding between a troll iksar or iksar sham. im semi casual player but never played a shaman and out of the classes.. these are for me,

with iksar.. JJB items not being avaliable is this a huge deal or is it not? as for iksar which i have never played for banking etc. how do people find them around the world?

Check out the priest forum for all your shaman questions. I'd say troll for alchemy vendors, inny snare necklace, and the ability to farm your own Overthere gate hammer.

Short Answer: Troll is the better shaman race.

More involved answer: Trolls and Iksars both have regen, which is awesome for Shaman (although I think most would agree that in the long run Ogre stun immunity is more awesome). Both are disliked by any good race. Both have the same (large) racial experience penalty.

However:

• Trolls can wear plate. First there's the famous JBB: I remember it being essential Shaman gear back on live, but here I think the consensus is that it's only really good if you can afford to get one to level up with. At 60, its value is a lot less clear.
  However, Trolls also get to wear the other great Jaundiced pieces. These can save you a ton of mana on raids because they have right-click stat buffs, and most are very affordable (<1k). Finally there's the chest piece (NOT so affordable) which offers one of the only ways for a Shaman to get a damage shield.
  
  
• Trolls are not hated by Dark Elves, other Trolls, Ogres, and The Overthere. EVERYONE hates Iksar, but at least Trolls have a few different cities they can sell/bank at.

What do Iksar have against Trolls? A slight racial AC bonus, and they aren't hated in Cabilis.

However, Troll Shammies CANNOT use the Ogre Shaman guild as they are KOS there despite being indifferent in Oggok.

Good point, but at least they can still use each other's banks and vendors.

And no, it's not a bug: the two guild leaders have beef with each other over something (I forget the story).

Regen becomes a lot less useful at 60 if you have torpor 1200-1500 healing depending on how the ticks fall. Having higher max HP at that point allows you to canni down to the point where you're getting the full torpor effect without getting dangerously low.

On top of that, many of the fun mobs a Shaman might want to solo at high levels summon them, which makes the normal root/rot approach impossible. Against these mobs, an Ogre is guaranteed to be able to cast through stuns, while any other race has to deal with their casting being interrupted by a stun.

Power hierarchy of shaman races IMHO:

Ogre > Troll > Barbarian > Iksar

That being said, I play a Barbarian Shaman myself: there's really no wrong choce, just a more or less power game-y choice.

Yup, although Iksar are incredibly behind even Barbarians.

JBB becomes obsolete around PoP.

Yeah, I agree Torpor sort of makes the JBB not as much needed.

These things aren't really related. In fact it's at 60 once you have Torpor when you'll be using the JBB the most. Mobs do a lot of damage when you're soloing them, even when slowed. You can put your mana towards Torpor / debuffs while using JBB and pet to DPS.

But Torpor is a 100k spell as of late and damn hard to even get IF you have the plat.

Upwards of 160k recently.

Troll is a rough road but the best choice.

JBB is really good and worth the cost.

Can easily solo 3-4 mobs in Karnors all day with just Epic/Root/JBB

and that's without* Fungi Tunic, Torpor, Bane, Pox, 55 Pet, or any pet.
