Was thinking about returning for a few months until teso comes out. Now the questions i want to ask is that how is the raiding scene? From what i have gathered its still pretty much up in the air? Premium items and rare spells still costing anywhere from 20k-80k? Hows the grouping scene? People still only leveling in Unrest - MM - Guk path?

Raiding potentially solved, inflation isn't fixable however... if you want rare spells you need to be guilded and be seeing them drop, and the typical leveling path hasn't changed in 3 years (except maybe CoM as an alternative to Lower Guk) [You must be logged in to view images. I've only been playing for like 6 months, but here are my impressions:
The raid scene got kinda messed up with some hardcore players really curbstomping pretty much all of the other guilds on the server, resulting in one guild getting 90%+ of the raid mob kills. In the recent weeks, much discussion and compromise has taken place to work things out, yet maintain a reasonably "classic" feel. Premium items do not cost from 20k-80kpp. Premium items cost from 100k-500kpp. It is really absurd, actually. How I (and many other like me) am supposed to start on this server without any help, yet manage to accrue half a million platinum in order to be competitive with other level 60's is ludicrous. I've been saving up since I started, i'm level 41 now, and I can *almost* afford one pair of Golden Efreeti Boots for 5k -- but that is like ALL of my money. Something seems askew.... However, on the lower/mid-end, prices seem relatively fair and negotiable (and dare i say even cheap, sometimes!) and you shouldnt have any problems gearing up a toon with decent enough equipment to get you through your 30's and 40's. The grouping/levelling scene is where this server truly shines. Crushbone, Befallen, Mistmoore, Unrest, Guk... they are all exactly as you remember: groups looking for favored classes, and players fighting the same mobs from 1999. Yes, there are a lot of twinks, but twinking is classic as hell! My journey... My adventure from level 1 to level 41 was everything and more that I ever hoped this Project 1999 server would be. In fact, if I get to the end-game and realize it's all drama and favoritism, I'm just going to start a new class from the ground up and experience the part of this game I love the most - the actual playing!

So you are just going to have to buck up, and level, and raid, and belong to a fairly good guild, and put the time in to get 500k. We all had to to do it. Nobody just gives it to you. I am not picking on you, I am just saying how you have to go about it to make it happen. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Also, you do not need a ton of money to be "competitive with other level 60's." Fungis and cloaks of flame and manastones (and the even more expensive items like puppet strings, bladestoppers, kunark breastplates/greaves, epics requiring VS/CT/Inny/etc) are awesome items, for sure. But they rarely make or break a class/group/raid, and the fact that something like GEBs cost you all the money you've saved in 41 levels just means that in a few more levels when you could throw together a group and go XP at freeti, when you get djarns rings and GEBs dropping there you're going to feel like you're rolling in the plat in no time. 1-45ish in EQ is about leveling up, exploring, making friends, learning how things work. Then beyond that point is when your character is powerful enough (basically regardless of what gear you have) that you can start worrying about continuing to XP at places where you can get nice items to use or sell. I assume you already know about killing pet right before mob dies so you gain full xp, well with these Focus Items you get an instant-cast 100% reclaim mana from the pet, so you are ready to cast it again immediately. (you will see all types of characters using these - my Shaman has the Stein of Ulyssa which I can click in my inventory and reclaim full mana). As a Mage, you get the added bonus of the Focus Effect on the item which enhances a specific pet of yours (so obviously you will want to do all of the quests). People seem to agree the Broom of Trilon is the easiest, but i found Stein of Ulissa to be the easiest for me. And i am so sorry if I just told you a bunch of shit you already knew. I've just been thinking about the Mage class recently and it kinda intrigues me, so i've been reading up [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
