Default Come to red99!

Oh shit, another red99 thread.

NO.

Well, yes, but hear me out.

I'm a blue player. I have several characters on blue, and enjoy it there a lot. Recently I started up on red. I've been having an absolute blast, and I'm not the only one. Swish has been red99'ing it up, as well as several other well known blue players. Why? Because it's a lot of fun.

Going to be totally honest here, the 200% xp modifier is great. It's letting me play classes I wouldn't dare touch on blue. I'd NEVER have the patience to play a wizard on blue. On red, it suddenly becomes possible for me to rock a gnome wizzy and pewpew things left and right while i port all around norrath with impunity. Iksar sk? Good lord I wouldn't touch that on blue, ever. Yet on red it's totally viable (and not even that painful) to play something with a 68% xp penalty.

"But gotrocks," you say to me with a mouthful of bloomin onions, "What about all those griefing spergloids we constantly hear on the forums? Isn't red a barren wasteland of retards pking each other into the ground, driving both the server and their lives into the earth like some kind of pixelated hindenberg?"

yes, there are griefers on red 99, and they can suck. but they are not NEARLY as prevalent as the forums and global ooc make it sound. In my whole time playing on red so far i haven't been greifed once. The couple times i've been hunted down and pk'd, i was able to loot and scoot (loot my corpse and go on my way) without any problems at all.

As a matter of fact, most of the red community is just as nice and friendly, if not more so, than blue. There is a very real sense of community on red 99, and the majority of hte people you meet are stand up guys and gals. There's just not that many people overall. We need more players! the more people we get on red the more fun we will all have.

Recently the devs gave us yellow text (shows who has killed who when someone dies, global), the 2.0 xp modifier, and NO XP LOSS on pvp death! When you die the only thing players can loot is pp. These are all fantastic additions to the server, and are all reasons why YOU should come play on red!

And lastly, and I think most importantly, is the raid scene. Right now on blue there seems to be a serious problem with the end game being dominated by one guild. And there's not much anyone can do about it. On red, if you want to down trak, you can do it by removing whatever guild is camping it. This will likeyl turn into a huge (and really fun) guild war type situation. And don't think just because nihilum is all vp geared that you can't compete! VP geared players are regularly beat down by ''walmart'' geared players all the time. The raid scene in red is ripe and ready for new players to come in and challenge it, now is your chance disenfranchised blue players!

Similarly, for people doing camps, if someone is at a camp you want and you dont feel like waiting in line for htem to be done... just pk them and the camp is yours! This is totally legal and a valid tactic. That's not to say that everyone runs around pk'ing people for their camps - people often DO wait in line for camps, but it's an option.

Lastly, it's just a lot of fun. There is just a general feeling of excitement wherever you go. you never know if that person in the zone with you is going to end up being an awesome friend, or your worst enemy. And on Red99, a friend is worth far more than they could ever be worth on blue. And an enemy... well, lets just say an enemy is far more than someone you talk shit to in game and flame on the forums in RnF.

After playing on red99, I'm not sure if i'll ever go back. Blue is still fun an enjoyable, and I do still log in from time to time, but red has been eating all my time. I'm now on my first alt, an iksar sk, and it's just as much fun and excitement as my first character - I just want there to be more players. If you haven't tried red99 RECENTLY then i highly recommend giving it a shot. You might just find you like it more than blue. And if you don't, no sweat - your blue character will still be there when you get back. You've got nothing to lose - except days of your life when you inevitably get sucked into red [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.].

If you decide to start up on red feel free to post in this thread. My wiz will be happy to give ports and binds to people looking to group up with each other. I may even have some pp to spare for some of you (though I'm not rich [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] ).

Give red99 a shot! You definitely won't regret it!

I'd like to really stress the thing about griefing. i know that is the #1 thing that keeps a lot of people from red99 - they are afraid they are going to get non stop pk'd the entire time they play, and won't be able to enjoy the game. This isn't true at all. Unless you are asking for it, the chances of you getting griefed are slim to none. This may have been different in the past, but those players have either left the game or grown up, because there are very very few of them left. And they mostly hang out in unrest (so avoid that zone! There are plenty of awesome places to level around 20, and no one ever gets to see them because everyone just goes to unrest!). So if griefing spergloids have kept you away in the past, nows the time to come try red99.

One last thing. Global ooc can be very obnoxious at times. So can the forums. Just ignore them if it bothers you. GM's have already said if we get enough pop global ooc is going away, and even if we don't its probably going to become restricted. So don't let that stop you from getting the definitive eq experience (and trust me, red99 is that).

Hope I see you on red! Feel free to message gotgnomes or gotknight, or post in this thread for help!

Here's the thing..... I never stepped foot on red99 and I know its not griefer heaven. However; that's only because there's very few people playing....

If got got their wish and 1000 people were playing tomorrow.... the hardcore reds would grief.

Here's the thing ... I never stepped foot on Florida (or New York, or California, or where ever) ... but I know it would suck.

So much illogical thought in the quoted post I actually laughed out loud!

I've never been griefed. Some guys do get all butthurt if they get attacked ... on a pvp server ... imagine that, lol! But that isn't griefing.

If you come on talking smack you probably will get griefed eventually, just like in real life you talk shit someone's going to eventually punch you in the mouth. Griefing doesn't seem to happen that much if you actually play on Red and don't just forumquest the boards there.

Unless you make a history with someone ...

Or come on talking smack.

And don't believe "stories". I attacked a guy once, then befriended him with another character later - the 'story' he told about that attack was completely false lol!

So don't believe this guys story when he hasn't even stepped foot on Red .... still laughing about that.

tl;dr - Never been griefed. Griefing rarely happens unless you're an asshat.

I am actually intrigued, gotrocks. You make it sound fun so I might just check it out later.

Bad and stupid analogy. Those places actually have lots of people.

Seriously, if Red were worth it, the people would already be there.

Replace Florida with Pakistan or Papa New Guinea. Perhaps two alien and hostile lands to westerners. And consider being dropped there with nothing but a pair of ragged shorts and a stick.

However. Both countries have their pros and merits. And are not entirely bad. And once you learn the language and local customs you might get to see some pretty amazing sites and meet some really interesting people. Enjoy some wonderful food and music. That is if you don't starve to death or get killed by the locals out of spite.

Red definitely has its worth it moments. Or the population would have been 0 by now. Rather than steadily increasing and more or less stable actually. I took a long break, many do, and the server gets a lot of players back who quit even.

Granted even I muted /ooc last night and I'm a long time forumquester, and occasional troll.

I'm not interested in a jacked up exp mod PvP server. That's why I play on blue.
