Default Opinion of good duo with a new player

My fiance is going to give this game a shot. I doubt it will go well but want to give her a good opportunity to like the game.

I currently have a 16 necro. I was thinking either try to pl the best I could to get near my level or start a new character with her to see if she even likes the game. Who knows it could end in 2 hours, but if we did end up leveling new characters together once we got to level 16 I might even switch back to my necro.

I was thinking a magician would be the easiest thing for her to be, and if I decided to level up with her as a new character an enchanter would be best fit with a magician.

I also considered a wizard, just because I have never been one. What do you guys think, and please have some explanation to why.

I have always seen wives play druids....not sure why, but from my experience wives of MMO nerds like us play druids..... No clue why.

Just sayin...

my suggestion would be to have her play a Mage. Back on live I played a nec and my bro played a mage adn we could duo just about anything. When we were outside I would fear kite or snare and yo yo kite it. In dungeon his earth pet would tank while I DOT and FD and pet beat on it a lil bit. Not to mention mages can summon food drink and pet armor/weapons. All in all a good duo.

cool... magician it is until she can catch up to my necro. Instead of power leveling her with my necro though I think I will make a new character to level up with her. It will take longer but I think it will be more fun for her if I"m playing as an equal.

I probably won't go with an enchanter though... since they don't really shine until later on - whatever I make will only be used from levels 1-16.

Seriously disagree with a mage.

Get a druid. A druid and a necro can kill anything duo.

Honestly, I just let my girlfriend choose what class she thought was coolest. Granted, this means we have one of the shittiest combos (Bard/Necro), but at least we're both having fun.

I agree, but druids do seem to make life easier, she won't have fun running long distances, and she can charge plat for ports!

Maybe a healer?
Not much available under 16 that has much to offer, maybe short of the Shaman and Druid - buffwise.

But with a healer you could help and cover her some - and she should get a taste of the Mage solo style pretty well.

I'm going to throw something out there that bucks conventional wisdom, and give you my reason why. It's not just for the sake of being trite.

I think you two should read over the descriptions at character select, and decide based on what each of you would personally enjoy. There are summaries that say what type of personality each class fits best.

Everquest is a complex game with a lot of depth to the many classes. It's my opinion that you will get more enjoyment out of playing a less than ideal combination that you each enjoy, because you'll get to experience the challenge of making do with what you each have to work with, and finding creative ways to work together, even at a disadvantage. This will serve you better in the long run.

Then it's an adventure to discover what you can do, and push your limits, rather than pigeonhole yourselves into what you should do because you're in A paired with B for pro minmaxing.

I often run into lower level folks in the cities looking for binds or running from one place to another, the folks playing the most awkward class combos as first characters genuinely seem to be having more fun.
