Default Undiscovered Quests

Remember clicking a link here once that lead to a Live Dev's detailed account of the number of quests that were never even discovered/completed in game by players. I'm not sure how many we're "classic."
Anyone else know what I'm talking about?
It was an interesting read, if nothing else...

well if many of the quests were not discovered or completed, does that then mean their not implemented in P99 because of not knowing how to complete or the dialogue/reward that goes along with it?

If it wasn't known about on live, it won't be on P99. P99 of course has no sort of direct "link" with the "official" EverQuest database; its database exists only as an aggregation of classic EverQuest information available on the web.

I can't remember the quote, something like 1000 undiscovered quests or something (items might have been thrown into that). I think it's mostly bullshit though, as a huge amount of quests were just broken, unable to be completed, or too obscure (possibly needing to say a certain phrase to an NPC that is not hinted about at all). Stuff like that was commonplace in the epic quests, it's just that players knew they existed and put a lot more time and effort into being the first ones to complete an epic quest (such as the brave monk who randomly turned in his Robe of the Whistling Fists on a blind hunch that he needed to do so).

A good example is Terrorantula, who drops a no drop heart and no drop leg. There's never been a use found for such items, although many believe it has something to do with Blitxen (or whatever the bug collector NPC in Misty Thicket was called). People put a lot of effort into /saying all kinds of things about Terrorantula to him, as well as turning in multiple combinations of the legs, heart, and his previous quest items to no avail. There was a patch note that he was "fixed" but all that was changed was that he no longer said the dialogue that mentioned Terrorantula.

Was there a way to complete the quest, either through Blitxen or another NPC? Possible, but doubtful. Now consider that there were most likely dozens if not hundreds of similar quests that were nearly impossible to complete or even start.

This was the Verant MO, and partially what made EverQuest so interesting. There was just an incredible amount of obscure shit in this game. Just look at Island 6 Sirran the Lunatic. Some long forgotten genius player figured out that you had to say "?llaw eht htiw eno I mA" to him before going to Island 7 to get the key for Island 8. There was incredibly obscure shit like this all over Norrath, it's just that only the "necessary" obscure shit was ever figured out (Plane of Sky was a pretty big deal).

yeah Brad bragged that as much as 3,500 quests still unsolved.
Unsolved my ass. 30% of all the solved (eventually) quests, were broken or lead no where for well over 2 years before they were finally fixed/coded in completely.
Gnollslayer comes to mind, which ended abruptly until they coded in part 2 years later

Go up to Sontalak and tell him 'The King is Dead.' My favorite busted quest that I spent a Dain, Yelinak, and Tormax head on. Luckily, scalraid folks on Inny didn't care. There's a few follow up lines as well.

A couple months ago, a bunch of people pulled together PoM cards on test to check various combinations that were not documented. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/i...ml?item=104268 is one such result.

The Kael Arena quest also got solved a while back. That one went on for several expansions.

You think most of these would still be around on EQMac? Since their database is so old? I would love to dig into it and try to find undiscovered quests.
