Permanent Black Sky/Purple Sun

I've seen old threads posted about this issue but I still can't seem to fix it. I have a permanently black sky with a purple sun no matter what time of day it is. The fix I've seen involves making sure your Resources file has all the correct items in it, but this could involve a full reinstall which I would like to avoid. Any ideas?
