Default NPC Backstab

Not sure if this is a bug or working as it was intended back in classic Live, but I was in Mistmoore last night and got backstabbed by a initiate familiar. With a Cracked Staff. (Presumably it cracked when he stabbed it directly into my back.) Ow WTF!!

Do all rogue-class mobs backstab regardless of the type of weapon they are holding, or should it be only if they have a piercing weapon? I can't remember.

They do it with bare fists, too. I remember at least that royal guard in Crushbone always held that main gauche, and he always shanked me backside. No recollection on others.

What I'm more puzzled of is the damage they do with backstab - in cases like scarelings and abhorrents it seems like backstab does less dmg than their normal melee. EDIT: oop, just got BSed for 260. Hah. =p

Folks claiming they backstab up to 100. I've never seen that happen and have played with these guys alot collecting scalps lately. Anyone elses?

Yes this is as intended. NPC rogues have the ability to backstab regardless of the weapon they are holding - or if they are even holding one at all.
