Game Mechanics: Death without xp loss

Yesterday, I was hunting in TT for my canni 2 quest. I came across a Froglok Yun Shaman and I underestimated his strength. I was no match for him and so I decided to gate at 9% of my HP bar, while having the poison and disease dot cast on me. I died during the loading screen without any mention of experience loss due to death and I did not lose any xp from the experience bar. I am not sure if this is normal so I decided to post about it in here. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a screenshot of the moment.

It happens all the time. Most frequently when killing Talendor and zoning to OT with his dot still on you.

It is either treated as a duel corpse (6 min rezz timer) or acts completely unrezzable.

Didn't it used to be if you zoned with low health and a DoT, you were stripped of all effects? Used to do this on purpose zoning from Paludal Caverns to Shadowhaven.
