Default Duo classes?

My wife and I enjoyed the heck out of EQ in its early days. We started in Kunark, and Velious was by far our favorite epac, so this server is just the bee's knees!

We always duod together, our mains were Monk/Shammy, and we had SK/Cleric alts. The monk and shammy could take on just about anything, at least until POP came out with the AC nerf (although we could still do quite well for exp camps).

So, we want to try something a little different this time. Thinking of druid/warrior duo because they'll level at about the same speed (that was a big problem for the cleric/SK) and, with the msaller population, having all the tricks a druid offers will be great.

Big concern though, is that the druid won't have the HPS to keep the warrior alive in the harder camps like the cleric did the SK. Or, Since there's no no slow like the shammy got to counteract the leather and lower AC of the monk, especially with no real pulling tools like feign splitting or mez. So, no CC (except root) and no slow leaves me thinking we're setting ourselves up for failure in the Velious camps.

Anyone have experience with this combo in this era? Will they be able to hold an experience camp down or camp some nameds? Or should we go back to Shammy/monk?

Finally, what is the server lacking, would a druid and warrior be welcome in groups at 60? I know we're way short on chanters, but trust me, you don't want me playing an enchanter!

One option would be to try a non melee duo. Mage/Necro is very nice and works quite well. Fear kiting is fast, and if fear breaks the mage pet can tank (whereas a necro pet will quickly die). Mages can also burn a mob down quickly if things get rough. The two classes complement each other very well.

Druid + Enchanter
Paladin + Enchanter
Shaman|Cleric + Monk
Cleric + Warrior

Even Shaman + SK would work

Actually your right. No more enchanters please. I enjoy instagroups

Edit: But Mage/Neco | Necro/Necro are really powerful candidates.

Play whatever you think will be fun for you guys. But that said, you wouldn't ever catch me playing a druid/warrior combo. You know that you're just giving up too much awesomeness by not playing a shaman or a cleric just so you can have ports.

Having the hybrid playing with the sham/cle is easy to deal with. Just drop group every time the healer dings and keep playing as usual until the hybrid dings too. Or, probably better, once you get to like 20 let the hybrid get a few levels ahead and then that gap should remain constant, more or less.

In general I think a non-melee duo is going to be much more successful, especially at high levels.

If you want to do melee, Shaman/XXX is way better than anything else.

No way a Druid is going to keep up with heals on a Warrior. Ain't going to happen. Too much down time medding. No way to slow mobs and very limited mana re gen until Oak at level what 54? And then only 4 mana a tick. The same as Breeze at level 16 on a Chanter.

Thanks for all the input guys. Looks we'll be going back to shammy/monk, she'll just have to deal with the "ugly" barbarians (she has no love for classic models) or, if I can get my way, go Iksar!

I'll admit, I was kind of hoping for that all along. Pulling is an art lost on the new generation of MMOs, and something I desperately loved. Peeling Vindi off his guards... man, some things you don't forget.

Not that the non-melee suggestions weren't good, but I'll be rolling a Necro as the cash grinding toon, so don't really want to roll another caster.

It's always the same stuff in these threads . . . so let me suggest something a little unusual. How about Paladin/Enchanter?
