Come on, defense!

I was sneaking, safe-falling and binding wounds in EC to max out my skills on my little level 8 monkling and I noticed on my little skills window that defense just turned 43.
Now if I check my skills in the inventory screen it shows as only 40 and is red. WTF up wit' dat? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
