Can anyone help me find this old everquest thread? (a long thread about MQ stealing)

Guys, I have been searching for this oldddddd forum thread for hours now. It was an older thread back in the Everquest day on some Everquest forum.

I remember it was extremely lengthy, because it recounted forum posts for maybe 30 - 60 pages, and detailed this person that had stolen an item from another person. Scammed them in some way.

The person that scammed them had said it was his roommates fault, and it wasn't his. Then it went into the actual player had quit over this entire deal, and it was an elaborate attempt at this person to save his skin.

Basically the guy had two characters, one being an honored person on the server that wouldn't ninja loot or steal, and an alt that he used to steal items as a different personality.

Then the thread progressed, and all the covering up led to the guys downfall. He accidentally responded in the thread with a person that had covered for him, and it proved that he was a scammer the entire time.


This was probably a horrible description, but do any of you guys know what thread I am referring to, or how I can access it?

Common scam in mmo's


the phantom roommate, brother, friend, etc

They can't give it back to you because they don't know where their brother put it.. and it would be impossible to talk to them >_>




Another scam is to fake your "death" for a clean slate because the account was "given" to a good friend or they had access to passwords or w/e.



The sell the account scam..

Seller later retrieves the account back with password recovery (or better yet on a server that doesn't allow you to change passwords like P99) or report yourself hacked.

or even a combination like dude it wasn't me who stole your stuff it was my (phantom) dick brother lulz.



Those are some common ones I've seen in various RnF forums.

I do recall something like this, the guy had a signature/sign off at end of each post and he responded as person 2 with person 1's signature.... Then few pages later he claimed it was a joke. I know it used show up under something like most stupid flame war mistakes.

That part of having two accounts, and mistakenly posting with one of them when he meant to post with the other, reminds me of that.

Reminds me of another old thread, not about scamming, but how to tell if you're playing too much eq. I remember laughing so hard, I nearly had tears rolling down my face. I goes like this:

You know you play Everquest too much when..........

You look at your dog and ask for a SoW.

you see the lightning bugs out in your front yard during the summer and think 'I wonder if it will drop a 'GLS'

You go to the zoo and wonder what the lions con to you.

When driving through rush-hour traffic, you wonder why you didn't bind at home so you could just gate back.

You glimpse roadkill on the highway and wonder if anyone's looted it yet.

Well, I'd like to Lend you that CD but it's no-drop...
