Red face Ice giants in permafrost

Whats up with these fools? They're level 50 and dropping level 34 research material since last patch.

They were dropping the lvl 49 research before patch.

Also wth, they drop up to 50 plats? the giants inside there never dropped that much.

I tried searching for this but couldnt come up with a thread about this.

Why was this changed?

Nilbog: ice giants outside permafrost will now drop ice giant toes and substantially more coin in lower denominations. ice giants inside permafrost no longer drop fine steel weapons.
This was the cause, I assume.

What exactly was fixed here? Just the coin drops? I had planned on doing some research as to whether they actually dropped 49 research components, in classic, but have not had the time. Every single mob that can drop 49 research mats, should also be dropping Diamonds, Blue Diamonds, Black Sapphires and Jacinth I dont ever recall them dropping these gems.

Sure it makes sense, but when has sense ever aligned with everquest? lol

These ice giants were affected when the coin drops were changed for the ones outdoors.

This would be good research to have.

I don't ever recall a fire giant or ice giant inside their respective dungeon dropping these gems.

I do know that planar mobs dropped them and I don't think mob level is the sole determining factor.

You are correct here, I was wrong.

What I have found so far is that every single mob that can drop diamonds and jacinth, all have the chance to drop 49 research mats as well.

There are however, a few mobs that can drop 49 research mats and do not drop high lvl gems ( this was where I made my mis-informed statement ).

Unfortunatally after 2 hours of researching ( research mats heh ) I have come up with next to nothing using wayback machine. The problem lies in the fact that in the classic days, item drops were connected to mobs by player submission, instead of the current item collectors people run in the background to help Allakhazam nowadays. Most people did not take the time to report " trash " drops off mobs, mostly only actual "stat" items were reported.

The " end all " of research sites from the classic days Mythiran Tower ( highlight left side of screen to reveal links ) Does not list a single "where to find xxx mat"

http://web.archive.org/web/200005110...llakhazam.com/

IMHO best preserved caster site from 1999-2000 Graffe's wizard Compilation Doesnt even list where to find Wizard runes in his research section.

http://web.archive.org/web/200002291...ww.graffe.com/

Any information i could find would be from 2004 - present allakhazam listings.

Last thing, On mobs that have a level range, lets say Fire Giant Warriors for example, which can be 47 - 51, I believe only the 49-51 versions that spawn should drop the 49 research mats, the 47-48 versions should fall down a tier and drop 44 research mats.
