Crashing while equiping

Every time i try to equip a rawhide tunic my game crashes, doesn't close or anything, just goes immediately to server select screen and i have to log back in and the tunic is un-equipped, if i try to re-equip it it crashes again.

What could be causing this!?

EDIT: it also happens while equipping a rawhide face piece, so its not just a visible thing.
