Default Enchanter Spec!

I've read some posts about it and the community seems to be torn between conjuration and alteration. What do you think?!

Specialization
Enchanters really only have two choices to go for in Specialization. These are Alteration and Conjuration.

Alteration is by far the more popular choice as 80% of enchanter spells are of this nature. It includes roots, hastes, slows, DoT's, charms, and most buffs and debuffs. Most enchanters choose this as their field of Specialization.

Conjuration is used for the mesmerisation series of spells. This is the major use of crowd control in the game. Some Enchanters once they reach Level 50, complete the quest at the Temple of Sol Ro and switch to this Specialization as they find they are casting more mes-based spells than any other type. It is really a question of gameplay.

Generally speaking, unless you are very sure, if you are making an Enchanter I recommend you specialize in Alteration.

Here's my last post about this:

The argument for conjuration vs. alteration is essentially whether it is better to save more mana over time (alteration) by reducing the cost of most spells, or to save mana in do-or-die situations where you are casting mez (conjuration).

I very rarely go from fm to oom casting nothing but mezzes. In a group, having that many mobs in camp means that your group is probably doomed anyway and the best that you can do is hope for an evac if you brought a porter. Generally, if there are enough mobs in camp that you have to lock them down long enough to run out of mana from full mana, you or your group will wipe before you can mez them all (assuming your mana pool doesn't just suck). On the other hand, I can recall several times where I was somewhat low on mana (30-40%) after rebuffing and then went lom or oom trying to crowd control shortly after.

An enchanter who specs alteration will save more mana over the course of a group/raid and will have more available to mez when shit hits the fan if they aren't normally fm. If they are, your spec won't matter much for the above reasons. Basically, situations where speccing alteration would save a group are much more common than those where speccing conjuration would. I'm sure some bro has a cool story about the time where they mezzed an entire train for 4 minutes or something and only pulled it off because they specced conjuration, but that's the exception, not the rule.
Now that I've played around with the 59 mez and 60 charm more, I can see where speccing conjuration might actually matter since Rapture is so damn expensive, and 10% off its cost might let you get another cast off. But this is the only situation I can think of where conjuration > alteration in general gameplay. Anyone who's not 60 doesn't need to worry about this.

I have played through the L40's and have not regretted specializing in alteration, for reasons Werlop has already pointed out =)

What you can do at 60 is all that really matters, since that's the stopping point. Go with Conjuration just to save yourself the hassle of having to switch later on.

There are 2 times where I would really consider using rapture: a seb king group (because shrooms are bugged atm) and in PoSky. I spend most of my time away from these zones- not really worth going conjuration for a boost in 1 loot camp that shouldn't require Rapture anyway. Aside from these spots, if you need to mez something Dazzle doesn't work on, you're probably doing it wrong.
