Default Do you guys remember when people used to group in Emerald Jungle?

I was just running to City of Mist for the first time in a long time and had a flashback of groups grouping outside of CoM the same way they group up around KC in DL for the first time in 20+ years.

Like I genuinely forgot that was a thing. I remember City of Mist was seen as a really dangerous place. Getting some Wu Sticks was pretty easy, but the zone itself was so hard that Jade Reavers were probably the most expensive item on my server, and most of us avoided go in [You must be logged in to view images. Does anyone else remember this?

I avoided CoM almost entirely in-era because EJ just felt like a death trap (didn't help my PC at the time could barely render the kunark zones, running through EJ was a laggy nightmare.

I certainly believe it though cause I remember people grouping for xp on all the ghosts and shit around seb quite often. Probably how the PS placeholder was found (if some dev didn't spill the beans on it that is).

Not sure if I actually cried IRL or not, but I definitely had a similar experience in Everfrost when I first started.

I was so upset ... over losing a corpse with a noobie tunic, noobie club, and like 5 silver. I eventually found it, but I probably could have leveled a couple times over in the time I wasted [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Well the good thing about early classic was that /consent allowed other people to fully loot your corpse, and then helpfully return your items to you and totally not just keep them.

(not surprised that was coded out in about a month)

I think Emerald Jungle might be right next to Dagnor's Cauldron for "hey, lets go and XP here" lol

I pointed a RL friend towards p99 a month or 2 ago. Completely new to EQ. Helped him install the files. He insisted on being an Erudite necromancer. I did help move him to WFP to be around other people and gave him like 50 plat. I did show him how to get to his guild area for spells but he mostly was set loose on Norrath. I told him the game was brutal compared to modern games. He very much wanted to try it on his own and see how it went.

For a few weeks, periodically at work he would tell me epic tales of his deeds in the scary wilderness of the east commonlands …

Blind at night. Losing more xp to death than to killls. Getting lost. Being jumped by pumas … and mummies … and lions. Picking a fight with a snake and barely winning only to die to poison. Spending 3 hours trying to find his corpse.

3 weeks in he was still level 5, mostly naked, and having epic adventures.

I don’t think he ever even found the tunnel before work/life got busy and he stopped logging in.

Took me right back to late 1999 and early 2000.

I didn't hang out around City of Mist back then, but it makes sense that some people would group up outside. Servers were crowded and less was known, people would just find a relatively safe spot and start pulling if there was something to exp on. There were definitely groups sometimes on the path to Unrest in Dagnor's, at the little huts.

Heh, being able to loot someone else's corpse didn't get removed for over a year. But people trying to find their corpse was often the bigger hurdle! Bards were so loved for being able to do that.
