Default Damage avoidance change in previous patch is incorrect

In the patch notes, damage avoidance was changed so that it was affected by defense skill. This was to fix a perceived issue where lvl 60 casters had as much damage avoidance as level 60 warriors. As far as pure-missed attacks go (so not counting dodges or any avoidance-based skills)

I believe that the previous avoidance rate was correct. Defense skill should affect damage MITIGATION not damage AVOIDANCE.

This thread is from 2002, so not in our classic timeline. But it is previous to the monk defense nerfs and should be relevant to our timeline.

"When you look at your AC, the number that you see is actually a combination of 2 factors, your Damage Avoidance and your Damage Mitigation. You know how it shows your AC / 1000? Well back in beta one number showed your dmg mitigation and the other your dmg avoidance. Apparently they thought people would get confused or they just wanted to hide some of their math so they combined the 2 numbers with some formula and created what we have today. Your mitigation is based on your defense skill lvl and the armor you wear, avoidance is based on skills like dodge/block/parry/riposte, and agility. Also some classes get bonuses in either mitigation or avoidance such as warriors have a higher innate mitigation while monks have higher innate avoidance. The AAXP skills Combat Stability/Agility directly affect your innate mitigation/avoidance numbers. "

Definitely not. The tragic story of Beetlfuud explains it well:

http://www.thesteelwarrior.org/forum...ad.php?p=55107

Code:
Armored results:
Def AC Hit Miss Hit% Dmg/Hit Dmg/Atk
---- -------- ---- ---- ---- ------- -------
20 201 480 617 43.8 1.47 0.64
1..3 154..160 650 177 78.6 1.90 1.49

Naked results:
Def AC Hit Miss Hit% Dmg/Hit Dmg/Atk
---- -------- ---- ---- ---- ------- -------
20 59 296 404 42.3 3.64 1.54
0..5 10...21 387 104 78.8 4.23 3.34
