How are crits and critical blows calclulated?

I just assumed they were calculated as double the damage you would have done + the damage bonus and Crippling blows as triple that - am I right?

edit: I realize I said critical blows in the title I hope this triggers u!

It rolls a second and third set of dice plus bonus damage.
