Wizard - Needs and deeds for a wizard to succeed!

Just looking for advice, tips, info on the wizard class in general that I might not be aware of. (I made a Sol Ro, Dark elf wizard.)

What gears should a wizard get?

What gears do wizards need for maximum effectiveness?

How decent are wizards on raids? (doubt I ever will, but this is one facet I am most ignorant about because I never played a wizard let alone did any raiding on one.)
