Default Monk Weps for Raid Targets

With the high AC of raid bosses in Velious, is there a preference between using DW or 2hb? If so, will that change come the triple attack and improved 2hb dmg tables shortly? I would love to hear the thoughts of experience raiders on p99.

Thanks!

Disclaimer: I am NOT experienced.

One thing to consider using a two handed weapon would reduce info sent from the server, making you less likely to desync your casual team mates that didn't serverfilter=1 ... Sounds silly but with recent 180 man CSG raids desyncs were happening. Perhaps that was just an artefact of the a/a double ban, though.

Also, you get more wriggle room to avoid eating enrage if you are a slacker (which I suppose you are not).

Have you considered the two hander / off hand trick (unequip the 2 hander between swings to allow the off hand to swing)?

Cant speak for monks exactly, I know for rogues which I would assume is the general rule of thumb for velious bosses is that faster weapons are better. Because of the high target AC, you want more attacks per second then anything.

I'm not experienced in the high end raid scene, so my information might be slightly off, but my understanding is that right now, dual wield is almost always better for comparable-difficulty-to-obtain weapons (assuming you aren't tanking with Whirlwind, eating a damage shield, or eating enrage).

With the patch that adds in triple attack and buffs the damage bonus on 2HB weapons, I believe that will switch such that 2HBs are almost always better for comparable-difficulty-to-obtain weapons (assuming you don't need faster attacks for push).

I made a spreadsheet with some common weapons (there's a separate tab for Dual Wield weapons vs 2HB weapons) that, I think, correctly captures the current damage formulae: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...nxk/edit#gid=0 (though it leaves out double attack, haste, bonus from strength, etc, since I think those things should apply proportionally equally regardless of the weapon).

Some examples from that spreadsheet (note that units are relative and don't directly correspond to DPS): BiS DW (Gharn/Fist of Nature/Baton of Flame) is around 35, and BiS 2HB (Abashi's Rod) is around 30. For context, Epic Fist + SoS is 27. Dual priceless / primal 1HBs is 28.5. NToV monk dual wield weapons should out-damage Abashi's too.

Any other comments about using DW vs. 2HB on Velious raid targets like AoW?

Thanks again,

right now its dual wield all the way.

Once the weapon revamp hits, its going to depend on the parses.
