Mob Speed Question

Just started playing again and feel like the mobs are running a lot faster? Was there a change?

Yesterday I was killed by a desert madman trying to get to the zoneline. I had a spirit of wolf and was running in straight line (but over dunes not sure if that changes things) and he managed to catch up to me and kill me even after fearing him in the opposite direction.

Just now I used engulfing darkness (40% speed debuff) and he caught up to me. I think i remember mobs run at 130% of player so he should have been running at 90% my speed?
