Default Haven't played since Velious live, what to roll

Stopped playing during Velious when I was maybe 10 or 11 years old, want to try the game now that I could really play it. Remember playing druid and magician back then and enjoying both. Any recommendations on what to play? I want to be able to both solo and find groups without needing any twinking etc.

Appreciate the advice in advance

i say play a necromancer; they solo well from a low level & are useful in groups.

Any caster type wouldn't be a bad choice for a first character. Melee Classes are a bit more gear dependent but still possible as a first class.. Long story short play what you want.

I recently joined P1999. Originally, I played from launch to Luclin, then off-and-on for a few more years.
Originally, my main was a Half-Elf Ranger and I absolutely loved that experience. They are good DPS, have a little bit of CC, are excellent pullers and they add some utility. They don't do these things as well as other classes - and finding groups might be difficult due to that, but overall I really enjoyed that experience.

There is also a lot of good info on the P1999 wiki. You might browse that to find out more about the different classes and races.

Otherwise I would second Twochain's advice: Just have fun! I will never have the time to do any serious raiding or get to cap level, so I'm just enjoying myself and trying some new things.

That is a scene from the movie "Dark Crystal" in which a Podling prisoner of the Skekses is being exposed to a concentrated beam from the Dark Crystal in order to facilitate the extraction of the Podling's vital essence. This exposure ages/withers the subject. The Skekses drink this vital essence to invigorate/strengthen themselves.

Necromancer is probably one of the best solo classes, and also not overly dependent on twink gear. I played one in Vanilla, up through OoW. In addition to soloing, you get some solid group utility as well. While controversial among a lot of necros when the spell went in, you have the 'give mana to other players' line which is helpful in a group. You get a snare which is essential in dungeons. You also have summon corpse which is pretty vital for recovery from deep zone raid wipes. You even get a heal of sorts.

I can't speak as well when it comes to Magicians. I know their pets are pretty awesome. I will say however that between feign death, harmshield, summon corpse.. you can get out of even the worst situations as a necro.
