My Fear of Faction Hits

Hey all,

I've been playing a High Elf Cleric of Tunare for a little while and fumbling my way through the game which is a lot of fun.

Recently as I level up a bit more, I've run into a number of people/groups who have suggested we kill guards for exp. Obviously this is decent exp as enough people have suggested it but to this point but I've so far opted out of because of my fear of faction hits. Part of the reason I went high elf cleric is so I can get around in most of the world without too much trouble on that front but if the exp is that good killing city guards, am I doing myself a disservice by opting out? How much of an issue is faction with most cities later in the game?
