We might act self-important but this guy takes it to a new level with believing someone is laughing to attack him and he is able to talk to "them" with an off-hand comment to prevent them from laughing and "taking up arms against" him.

Yeah it's a bit extreme. It all depends on why he is getting laughed at as soon as he enters rooms I guess, and who's doing it. Sounds a little fat though.
