Default Resolution Crash

So I got a new computer and I cannot seem to get back into the game.

Last night I installed the game and it wouldn't load at all, it kept crashing stating that it encountered a problem, yada yada yada. I did everything that the eqemu forums suggested for a resolution issue, but it still did not work.

Last night, I somehow got into the game because I launched the game in windowed mode and then went to full screen once I was in the game. Now when I try today, everytime I go to fullscreen mode, the game crashes.

I understand this is an older game, but someone out there has had to have figured this out.

1680x1050 resolution.

Thanks!

Edit eqclient.ini and change the settings manually. Search mgellan eqclient for detailed instructions, I've typed them often enough [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Thank you very much for your response. However, this is one of the first things that I tried that did not help.

Thank you for responding though. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

It wont let me upload it here. It says invalid file. but Ill copy and paste it:

[VideoMode]
Width=1680
Height=1050
WidthWindowed=1680
HeightWindowed=1050
WindowedWidth=1680
WindowedHeight=1050
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=60

The only way i can get the game to start, is if I change my desktop resolution to 1024x768 and also launch the game in 1024x768 mode and then change it once I get in. It sucks....

Try setting WindowedMode=TRUE if it isn't already. I wasn't experiencing this just today with the exact same resolution. Couldn't run eqgame.exe defaulted to fullscreen.

I tried that too. It does load into the game, but when I try to fullscreen it, it crashes.

I assume you're using Vista or 7, right?

If so, change the compatibility to run in 640x480 under properties on the eqgame.exe. Once in game you can maximize out and change your resolution. May also want to try considering running the compatibility mode under something different. XP SP2 works for me.

I have this same problem on my WinXP laptop.

The game runs as long as I start Everquest in windowed mode, fullscreen works fine after that. It's pretty annoying.
