Default Aussie Lag with large pulls - anything we can do?

Hiya,

So after countless attempts to try and resolve this issue I figured i'd try seek help on the forums to see if anyone has anything to add.

I'm from Australia and basically the issue I have is whenever i'm near any large pulls, whether its huge bard pulls in DL or large guild raids (PoF especially with the big pulls) i will lag out entirely and may not recover for 15-45 mins (if at all).

I have tried this on 2 different connections (different computers also) and at 2 different locations and its the same. I am also told that some other Aussies have this issue. I can play other games at the same time on the same computer and those are completely unaffected during the time that everquest is entirely lagged out. My ping to google also remains unaffected.

My eqhost file is set to
"[LoginServer]
Host=login.eqemulator.net:5998"

ive turned off pretty much everything I can think of
- shadows off
- npc names off
- most combat text off (including bard songs, DS, etc)
- far clip plane to 0
- log set to off
- particle effects all off

The network traffic seems to be minimal, I just cant figure out why the Everquest client cannot handle it.

Anything you can think of would be great - it would be nice to be able to raid again one day [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Unfortunately I believe this to be an inherent EQEMU related issue. I too suffer from it, and have done so on other servers (PEQ)

I would love to one day see it resolved [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I play from China and have similar issues. Mine also usually fails to load server select without a VPN on. 9/10 its just blank, but then i use VPN and am fine np. Downside is playing with shitty ping.

But as far as lagging out, yea. Internet usually bites the dust when server pop is high, zone pop is high, or on bum rush type events like VS rush. It actually severs the VPN connection, im not sure how that works, but it kills my whole connection and i must reconnect entirely. Typically fine in places like hate or sky.

One guess - since im using a vpn its through a proxy at some point, im guess there is a flood of request or something from the server side, and it triggers a ddos warning and cuts my connection off. i have no idea, but it sounds plausible if theres a flood of some BS from server side, if your anti-hack code theory is correct, or if something similar exists at eqemu.

It would be good to know if the admins have had a look at this issue or not, sounds like its been around for far longer than i thought.

Have any of you reported this or gotten any response from Admins?
