depends on what you want to do. are you going to be soloing? grouping? dungeon crawling? raiding some day? or just playing casually?

levelling a necro is a bit more casual friendly due to the existence of Feign Death, but both are pretty casual friendly. wizard has a bit more of a learning curve once you get to quad kiting to solo but its not too difficult. having a wizard buddy is nice for groups just because of the convenience of porting and evacs. neither one is super useful in a raid.... wizards a bit more useful for now since they can dish out so much burst DPS and raid mobs have so little HP in classic/kunark, but once velious comes and raid mobs have many times more HP wizards fizzle out a bit. evacs aside, necros are quite a bit more useful for indoor dungeons.... whether it be solo, duo, or a full group.

Necros are better solo and in groups than wizards are. Wizards are better in raids. Necros are also a much more interesting and versatile class; wizards are boring and rather one-dimensional.

I didn't find a wizard boring on Live but to each their own; that siad, they are fairly one dimensional. Wizards can be very useful in groups .... short burst dps when you need it, evacs/ports, etc. Necros definitely solo better although once you can finally snare on a wizard it gets much better.

I absolutely loved my wizard up until the point where I was getting a bunch of MR which has made it quiet frustrating at times. They are great to quad with (as fun as quadding is anyhow)
Ports and evacs are brilliant. They are the only way to get to hate/sky.
Saying that, unless you like big numbers infrequently, or have a pet chanter along with you, you often feel pretty useless in groups.

Necro would be more fun to play in general IMHO. Wizard would slightly be more enjoyable to raid with.
