Default Necro/Mage Duo questions

Myself and a friend have been playing a duo Cleric/Monk combo to 35 stopped and rolled a Necro/Mage duo, we took a break and are getting back into the game pretty well and just hit 30 on them.

Right now we are going to start doing the Unrest basement which seems like it'll be good to get us through this hell level, curious though if anyone had any other spot suggestions that'd be good? We plan on hitting 34 any way we can then heading to the Overthere for some sweet sweet fear kiting action.

The major question/concern i'm having is the duo viable at farming up cash camps successfully in the end game dungeons? I don't have much hope in getting these two raiding/epic'd, so we are looking at getting them leveled up into the 50's and farming plat to twink out some new alts and power them up.

Any insights, tips or similar experiences would be great to hear about.

No. The problem is neither your mage nor your necro has any sort of defensive capabilities at all. No heals, no slows, no HP buffs. Swapping the necro (or even the mage) for the cleric (or a shaman) would be much better.

It's not that you can't kill anything, but I remember duoing the spore king with Senim (Enc + Epic Mage) and it was very, very fragile. Nec/Mag would be much worse without slow.

Another problem I've seen with this kind of duo when playing my necro is that the necro pet will get aggro all the time. Why? I have no idea, but it's a major pain in the arse.

When it comes to farming dungeons, the necro can do it solo in a lot of places so no reason why the duo couldn't although you would have to be careful with the targets you pick.

It is! We've run into this problem most noticeably with the Earth pet. I've found out that if the earth pet roots the target, the mob will turn and melee the closest pet regardless of aggro which is always the necro pet because it has a smaller melee range. So i'd normally have to get on the opposite side of the mob, back my pet up so its inside the mob pretty much then sick it back on the mob.

And good to know for the dungeon farming, it'd be grand to be able to duo something like a fungi tunic, but at this point farming 10k plat items seems quite lucrative as well.

You'll do just fine farming high level stuff. You may not be powerful enough for the very top camps but you're formidable enough for plenty of stuff (as mentioned, necros can solo plenty as it is; the addition of a mage is definitely not gonna hurt). Also, necros are quite decent healers, what with lifetaps and their dispellable HP transfer spells (which end up basically being free heals).

If you wanna level fast, I'd recommend sticking to dungeons and charming undead. You'll do a lot more DPS than with your dinky summoned pet, and dungeon ZEM gives you extra EXP per kill. You'll also learn more skills that will come in handy doing high-level camps: using feign death to split camps, doing CC, and so on. Fear kiting in OT is easy but it's boring and slow(er).

Mage/Necro should be a lot of fun. It's not a true power duo, but you're two strong solo classes working together and with skill and good communication you can probably do a lot of stuff. Once you hit 34 and the Necro gets root you should try hitting some dungeons. With the Necro able to root for CC the Mage can use the focused Fire pet with the massive damage shield. Combined with Necro pet, DoTs and Mage nukes you should be melting mobs pretty quickly and not suffering through the boredom and low ZEM of Overthere. If you hit 55+ with this duo, I don't even want to think about the kind of tricks you could pull with CoTH + FD/CoS/Harmshield/Necro Rez. No doubt some crazy stuff though. Would be fun to try.

Any recommendations for 34 dungeon wise? We've pretty much planned to do Overthere/EJ etc for the fear kiting which I imagine will be easy if somewhat slow xp.

Right now we're pushing 32 doing Highkeep basement and discussed transitioning to the up stair guards but am unsure how that'd affect my faction(human mage).

Thanks for the responses so far.
