Shaman pet question
Excuse my newbness, but is the Shaman pet (specifically Vigilant Spirit) able to equip gear? Namely weapons.
My assumption was always yes, but since they show now weapon animations I've never been able to verify it. I've asked around in game, but no one has ever been 100% sure one way or another. Any info would be great! Thanks very much! | ||

No, they do not. You can tell because even if you give your pet a weapon his damage and attack type (ie. bite) won't change.
Personally I remember giving pets weapons to make them dual wield back in Velious, but I have been too lazy to go find evidence of it (for instance, an old Shaman's Crucible post from the Velious era that mentions giving weapons to pets). If you could find something like that the devs would likely change Shaman pets to use weapons, but until then they won't.

Like this? Check out this thread starting at the 9th post and on. There are a few references to gearing "Vigilant Spirit" and they are circa 2003. That's about in Velious area correct?
I'm willing to do some digging to get this fixed if anyone else can help me verify dates and so forth. Can any Dev substantiate any of this? | ||

You've got the right idea, but 2003 is way too late; Luclin was released in December of 2001, so you'll need to find evidence from before then if you want to convince the devs to change things.

1999-2000 Usenet thread discussion NEC, MAG, SHM, and ENC pets and the Fine Steel Dagger "exploit." Plenty of discussion of loading up FS daggers on NEC, MAG, and ENC pets, but I didn't see any discussion of equipping shaman pets to achieve the same results.
