Default What is it about Specs?

I keep seeing level 47-49 necros and SK's camping spectors that are 10 or so levels lower than them. Why is that? Is there something that specs drop that they need?

They're good money, and easy for necros/SKs as undead, and have low health (great for any solo class).

Bigger fact is, not a ton of options in classic. I recommend them for mages 44-48, if you can ever find oasis/feerrott camp open, and many other solo capable classes kill them.

Even when they're light blue, they'll regularly yield 1% EXP to players. As others have said, they're rather good cash as well.

i must have gotten a hold of some cheap spectres then. I FINALLY found the ones in Feerrott uncamped about 2 weeks ago. I said to myself "cool, finally got specs this will be great" I needed some money and have heard rave reviews. Killed the one outside and first 2 inside...got about a plat off of each, 1 rusty and 2 bronze scythes. Left and went to sol A and murdered gnomes and cleaned up. I figured they would at least dropped FS.

go figure

This isn't true (a quad of light blues gave less than 1% to my Bard when he was level 48 or 49, I forget which).

This is also not true.

They're really good money and extremely easy to kill. It's also very easy to get the top tower in Oasis because most people can't take 3 spectres at once, so if you're a Bard/Wizard/Druid, then you have yourself an easy, effortless camp for money. My Bard spent roughly 3 whole levels camping specs (not in a row though) and I'd estimate he made about 5-6K in the process. Basically, they're a good alternative for classes who can't solo seafuries efficiently.

They tend to drop "Scythe"s (which sell for 12p), fire opals, opals, peridots, and all sorts of decent gems. The money really does add up if you do it over a reasonable amount of time. Also, the spectres in oasis drop more pocket change (not sure if this is intended or not), so you get specs dropping 5-6 platinum fairly often, along with their juicy vendor items.

Spectres are good because of their low HP. It makes them quick kills so you can fit a ton of them into a 6 minute time frame and then they start popping again. They are terribly boring though and the cash is not good (I don't care what people say). The cash is terribly bad in OOT/Feerrott if you can't sell the Scythes.
