![]() Don't get me wrong, I am easy going. I am posting this for informational purposes only.
During Planes of Power and above I was a level 65 necromancer messing around in Kurns tower for days while checking the allakazam forums. Why? The mystery of Mirgon's head quest.... ...because... even then, no one solved it! ...because.... it was broken / incomplete! The quest items were dropping and I was able to place them inside of the skull, but I am not sure if combine worked or not. Regardless, the glowing skull that is dropping and the combine to create it were never working during the Kunark era. They did an update due to many of us complaining /petitioning and I think this is around the same time they added to the necro skullcap quest as well. Which I suspect is also going beyond what it should for the time period. Regardless, I feel the quest was always the way the skull of torture should be aquired. Why have many components including one that must be fished in order to create a glowing skull and then make the glowing skull simply.. DROP anyways? Come on, that is just stupid. Honestly, if we insist on leaving the skull of torture quest in the game, the glowing skull should always be quested through the combine. This dropping from skeletons takes away from the spirit of questing. Of course, as I said, the skull of torture quest was not even around when Kunark came out. I mean, it existed somewhat but was NOT completed till POST Planes of Power. Anyways, I just wanted to share this information. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/q...tml?quest=2177 ...And you will see the big debate as people attempt to solve the quest that was never really done till years later. Thanks! - Terethian, High Elf Cleric

![]() This is correct
The skull of toture should not exist till POP expansion. The quest item for the original quest can exist but would make no sense since we have no way of knowing what the original quest reward was or how to complete it.

![]() the Glowing Skull that drops is used in the SK khukri quest chain. are you saying that no one ever completed greenmist until POP if the glowing skull was never completed?

Obviously, if the glowing skull drops for a quest I did not know about, and was present at the start of Kunark, by all means that should exist. I can think of a far politer way of saying that than your post! May the holy light of Tunare shine upon you and show you to the light, Terethian, High Elven Cleric.

![]() probably should have been more thorough in my post.
1. current skull of toture item should be removed was not from our time line. 2. all items from the orig quest should be removed never solved EXCEPT those needed for other quest from kkurns tower. Hope the helps.

![]() ill check the old quest with links. and up date this post.
Here is the link to the last working parts of quest note it remained unsolved and was patched by sony with the current item in 2003 skull of torture http://oldunsolvedquestsineverquest....d#.VEg26r50vjQ This is the allakazam quest link. Again notice the dates of post 2002 is the earliest and still was not solved so this item should not exist on p1999. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/q...tml?quest=2177

![]() I tried this quest on live around 2001 to 2002. i would try to collect the item and would get frustrated and move on. finally i gave up simply because the items where not in game to complete it.
Posted this thread on the quest because it is the most complete one i remember when i would look in on this quest. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Hollow skull - new thread Lead [-] avatar Posts: 237 May 19 03 3:21 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts TAGS : None For old discussion please see this thread: pub8.ezboard.com/foldunso...D=24.topic Also see everquest.allakhazam.com/...quest=2177 The Tower Cook's Head (aka The Hollow Skull) In the basement of Kurn's Tower is an area known as the "Stables". The undead jester can be found here; his rare drop is the Iksar Berserker Club, but he always drops an interesting note which identifies as "The Rhyme of the Tower Jester". It reads as follows: Within the tower lies the corpse of Mirgon Dower. A faithful servant of Kurn's deadly tower. He served Kurn and kept him very well fed. Now it is time to replace his head. His new head did glow once upon a time. Now there are no eyes, no tongue, to taste the sweet honey flesh. And so the years flow. When all are back together the magic will once again glow. A skeleton cook can also be found in the Stables. He always drops "a hollow skull", a 4 slot combinable container that holds TINY items. This would appear to be the Mirgon Dower mentioned in the note, and also his head which needs reassembling. Once in a while a Burynai Forager will pop in the Stables area. When killed he either yields one of 2 LORE dusty sealed canopics or a dried tongue. When identified they turn out to be the Left Eye of Torture, the Right Eye of Torture, and the Tongue of Torture. Seems we are on the right track, but the canopics will not fit inside the skull, since they are SMALL sized. The trick is to get the canopics opened. Go to Galdon Vok Nir, an Iksar in the evil outpost in The Overthere, he can be found inside the compound next to its easternmost wall. Invisibility will get you by the guards so you can talk to him. I am not sure if he indifferent to everyone or just Iksar. You say, 'Hail Galdon Vok Nir' Galdon Vok Nir says 'Please do not harm me. I am not the one who brought the outsiders to our land. I am innocent and deserve to return to my people. You say, 'what is the eye of torture?' Galdon Vok Nir says 'I have heard of such things. You must have stumbled upon an ancient jar devised by one of my long-dead ancestors. They were fine craftsmen. I do not share their gift, but I do know the secret of the locks. If you have one of the ancient Vok Nir canopics, allow me to open it for you. [ Give him one of the canopics ] Galdon Vok Nir grasps the jar and begins to push and turn the lid. 'Ahhh!! Here you are, my friend. Unngh!! It appears to be a preserved eye. I do not think it would be wise to eat it. Perhaps you can use it for another purpose. Where did you find this jar?' You gain experience!! [ Give him the other canopic ] Galdon Vok Nir grasps the jar and begins to push and turn the lid. 'Ahhh!! Here you are, my friend. Unngh!! It appears to be a preserved eye. I do not think it would be wise to eat it. Perhaps you can use it for another purpose. Where did you find this jar?' You gain experience!! You say, 'in kurns tower' Galdon Vok Nir says 'Kurn's Tower!! Such a dangerous place for one to wander. It is a place of great suffering. Kurn was well known for the torture of many races, mostly the giants named the Kromdul. Long after the destruction of the tower by an unknown foe, the Kromdul returned to retrieve Kurn's body for sacrifice to their gods. They did not find his body, but rumor has it they found Kurn's favorite torture weapon. What happened to it, only they would know. You say, 'what Kromdul?' Galdon Vok Nir says 'The Kromdul are a race of giants. I believe they inhabit the woods of Kunark. The two Eyes of Torture will now fit inside the skull along with the tongue. The fourth item is as yet unknown. Perhaps it lies with the Kromdul, or perhaps the tongue needs to be modified in some way. At this point, we had the skull, 2 eyes of torture, and the tongue of torture. Ozmandias posted a side note on this thread about this quest and salt minnows: pub146.ezboard.com/fthesa...1&stop=100 Quote: I've come upon a piece of paper with a reciepe on it, which after some translation is "Sweet Honey Flesh". I need a Salt Minnow to make it though. Thinking about how Kunark quests are worded, it'd make sense that the food he eats would be the other item. Note that the in game source for sweet honey flesh is not known. However some people did manage to find entries on the web that may come from the EQ emulator project: Quote: Ancient Jerky This is the recipe once known as Honey Flesh and was used by the ancient Lords of Pain. They found many good uses for decayed flesh and bone. This is one of their gifts to us. Two Portions of Zombie Flesh. One Bixie Honeycomb. One Salt Minnow. Dry all these ingredients within an oven. So this gives us: 2 x Zombie Flesh 1 Bixie Honeycomb 1 Salt Minnow Combine in Oven There is also info from Amaruk posted here: pub146.ezboard.com/fthesa...5630.topic Salt minnow was not in game for a long time, however popped up on test early May 2003 ( mboards.eqtraders.com/php...3057#53057 ) The May 14 2003 patch included this info, at this time Salt Minnow was thought to have entered the live servers. Quote: - Added Honey Mush Bread to Cabilis Vendors - This is an item needed for a quest that was unavailable. - The Skull of Torment quest - This quest, in Kurn's Tower, should now work. As I understand it, Honey Mush bread is used for this quest pub8.ezboard.com/foldunso...D=28.topic and has nothing to do with the Skull of torment quest. current Status The (unconfirmed) recipie for Sweet Honey Flesh is 2 x Zombie Flesh 1 Bixie Honeycomb 1 Salt Minnow Combine in Oven Questions: Has Salt Minnow been seen on a live server? Zombie flesh does not exist in game as such. Zombie skin? Has been reported that 2 * zombie skin, 1 bixie honeycomb, 1 salt minnow, in an oven is a DNC. The following items are known (** means not in magelo, and found via data mining) 12394 A Dusty Sealed Canopic Lore:Right Eye of Torture 12395 A Dusty Sealed Canopic Lore:Left Eye of Torture 12396 a preserved eye Lore:Right Eye of Torture 12397 a preserved eye Lore:Left Eye of Torture ** 12398 Kurn's Jerky Delight Lore: Kurn's Jerky Delight 12399 a dried tongue Lore:Tongue of Torture ** 12400 Scorpion Breastplate Lore: Scorpion Breastplate 12401 A glowing skull lore:Skull of Torture The biggest question still is the ingame source for the recipe. There is always a chance that the Honey Mush bread quest will give a clue (heck, for all we know Klok Foob hands over a recpie book as a reward). Note also that there is no obvious gap in the item ID's for Zombie flesh.
