Default Weird Issue. Black Screen when Windows Popup in Windows

Right now I currently play the game in Windowed Mode.

Sometimes an Update Window will popup for Flash, Java or whatever else and then my EQ Window will go black.

Usually not a big deal right? But I can't end the EQ Process in my Process List.

Has anyone heard of an issue like this before?

The P99 client blacks out whenever you give administrative privileges to any program, which is required for basically any install app (Flash & Java updates, etc.). This is a necessary precaution to deter the use of third-party apps in P99.

You can end the eqgame.exe process, but you need to click "Show processes from all users" in the lower left corner of Task Manager first.

I don't think it has anything to do with curbing TPP use on p99.

The Titanium client is old, and when your system tries to switch displays around (from desktop to game or vice versa) Titanium fails to reset properly, and you get the blank screen.

This will also happen if you open anything full screen while Titanium is running. I can't leave EQ open in the background while I play other games because I know that when I come back the screen will be blank.

TL;DR from my understanding there isn't much you can do about this - it's a Titanium client limitation that we have no control over. The only thing that may work would be WinEQ2:

This tends to fix a lot of weird little issues that seem to pop up due to Titanium's age.

Alt+enter works for me about half the time, the other half I get some sort of error and have to restart the game.

Wow

Thanks for all the informative replies.

The main issue that really annoyed me was that I simply couldn't kill the process or even alt+f4 the window. I will try the suggestions mentioned here next time because I was being forced to restart my Windows OS whenever this issue happened (because I couldn't kill the process)

Ill try the Show All Users/Processes suggestion next time.

Hey Recycle - I had that issue when I got an Oracle popup. I have my taskbar set to "hidden" so that it only shows when I move the cursor to the bottom of the screen. Not sure if this has anything to do with anything, but I learned that when that popup appears, I do NOT click yes or no within the popup box, I move my cursor down to the task bar over the oracle icon ON the taskbar and RIGHT-CLICK. I get the option to <close window> with a little "x". I click the x and the popup goes away and my EQ display stays around with no problem. Not sure if this will help ya, but maybe...

Easy fix without closing the program: Alt + Enter to go full screen, then Alt + Enter to go back to windowed mode. Works every time for me when it goes black.

If you switch accounts by camping and quitting to the logon screen, or if you /q to switch accounts, the next time you alt + enter the client will crash. Can be avoided by /exit every time you switch accounts. Titanium client is trash, but oh well.
