I am having a problem understanding this saying... English being a second language to me I don't get what it means when Azrael says they have a rich history of contesting mobs with pvp. please explain?

The statement means that Azrael has contested pve mobs through the means of pvp frequently in the past. Whether it's true is debatable, I guess.
