Default Lumi Staff question...

How are you supposed to use it exactly? I was under the assumption that it was a great tool for soloing, but then I actually looked at it on the wiki and it says the cast time is 10 seconds. So, is it actually more useful in a grouping situation when you may actually have 10 seconds to get a free nuke off, or am I looking at this thing wrong?

I just got to 44 this weekend and I'm considering buying one at 45 which is the main reason I'm so curious.

Thanks!

on a snared mob if you just run just out of range and start clicking it, there's enough time for it to get off with a second or two to spare before the mob/quad gets to you. It's more useful soloing mainly, I've never really used it as a tool to dps in a group, personally I would rather be sitting and medding then a 184 nuke or what not

Thanks for the tip. For some reason I was thinking that it wouldn't even let me begin to cast if I was out of range, but I was mistaken [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

It won't let you cast till the mob is in range. Just when they're snared it takes them more than the 10 second cast time to close the distance.

Get out of range, make sure that when you click the staff it says your target is too far away, keep clicking until it starts casting, by then there should be enough space to get the cast off and move once it finishes.

I will occasionally use it as a single target nuke to finish off mobs if ES Vambraces aren't doing it quick enough.

Though if I could go back in time and smack the dev who designed the staff, I would've smacked them into changing the clicky to Combust or Firestrike. Single target nuke is far more versatile beyond just Quad Soloing.

Ok, thanks for all of the info. In your guys' opinion is it a must have item or just something that's nice if you can afford it and aren't lacking in other departments gearwise?

I'd say its must have for a small level range.* From about 46-49~

*If you quad kite often/occasionally

If you group a lot or you charm kill, I don't think it is all that valuable however.

For reference, I'm a level 60 Druid, I bought the Lumi Staff probably 3~ months into Kunark at 54 or 55 I'd guess. I used it to quad kite Seafuries for a bit, and Hill Giants occasionally. Beyond that as I stated above, I swap it in to finish off a single mob if ES Vambraces are too slow

The spell being outdoor only does hinder a lot of its uses.

That staff is great for quading dwarves in BB. Will get you to 49 in no time. You can do 3 quads right before the first respawns if you are quick enough.
