I usually just run the train through both sides so I at least know I hit the right one. I can never remember which is which.

I always liked to hit a mob with screaming terror and then hit him with a fear and then run to the entrance way ahead of the train and wait.

Then when a large random train comes running up people are all confused and I just act like an innocent guy and slowly back out of the zone.

For a long time, the train side was the best XP spot. People were nice enough to bring you tons of mobs. Sometimes even named =D.
