![]() What's the consensus on this? The exact outline for the PvP server is hard to find (no sticky that clearly outlines everything) and I'm not sure I'd bother playing 1999 PvP without item loot. Was there anything in the HISTORY of gaming that was more fucking horrifying, incentivising and strategic than item loot in old EQ?
As a future lvl 1 with no connections, I'd be at a huge disadvantage, but PvP is just not PvP without huge risks and rewards. So what is the community consensus? Should there be item loot? Is item loot planned for a future patch? Should it be no-bag (traditional) or no-bag no-weapon to help the melee types out? All of my real life friends were heartbroken to learn that project 1999 existed, but that the PvP server had no item loot, and I haven't been able to get them to play for that reason. To be honest I don't blame them. tl;dr WHY IS THERE NO ITEM LOOT? WHAT KIND OF PROJECT 1999 IS THIS!? Why would I bother playing on that server when the /duel command exists on the blue server? | ||

![]() there is no item loot because it would be worse for server population. most ppl are more casual than they used to be 15 years ago and aren't looking to lose the gear they farmed on their spare time.
there will be some kind of item loot on the Teams server that is coming out, but the launch date is unknown and far away. | ||

![]() Red99 is a free for all server which means there are no hard coded teams at all. Outside of normal in game faction (evil races KOS, evil classes frowned upon / sometimes KOS) you have no issues grouping with whoever you want to. There are active members of the community that have been begging the staff to make red99 server a real classic experience by implementing an era correct rallos zek ruleset but the more blue members of the community have been opposed claiming that it is bad for server population, a notion that I strongly disagree with.
About half of rallos zek quit when augmentations came out and made all good items no drop (because no one wore a non augmented fungi) and then the rest quit when they stopped item loot altogether. The main opponents of item loot are the following: 1. People who only care about pharming pixels and don't want to lose their pixels when they are AFK like retards, and 2. People who like to have low level twink PK's and crap all over lowbies and never worry about anyone bothering to try to kill them. | ||

![]() Yes everyone groups with (or immediately attacks) everyone else.
There is a huge exp bonus for lower levels. Try and beg a weapon/spell money off someone, most ppl are helpful to lower levels as long as they believe you are genuinely new to the server. It will feel lonely as you level, but 50+ you will see a lot more ppl. It takes thick skin, but this server is fun at higher end if you can get in a guild and get immersed. The high drama is very worth it. As you can see on these forums, one player just filed a police report against another yesterday. | ||

![]() Probably the best thing about item loot is going out of your way to get normally junky items just because they are no drop, so you can be a baller in bad gear and just bomb around. It gives a TON of meaning to a lot of content that is usually just junk. Shin armor in guk, that crap in KC, the blue crap in the dwarf part of velious. Theres just a lot more stuff worth getting when item loot is in play.
The biggest thing is that a lot of people here want to have their eq dreams fulfilled and they really aren't interested in risking anything at all. They want the best pixels and they want to keep them. A good majority of people who started on red only did it so that they could get cool OG pixels and have a clear road to the top of the server instead of fighting through the hoards on blue..for pixels. For me, item loot gives PVP meaning. It also means that people have to strategise their equipment selection. If they want to be a big gangster with the best stuff, they have to risk it against their opponents. At the same time, if they run all their gimp gear they will be easier to defeat. Overall it is a much more dynamic experience that is completely worth the inconvenience of losing items. Some argue that a melee gets crapped on too bad on item loot servers, but on rallos I was easily able to level up a ranger to 50's in random crap gear that supplmented my full banded armor. It gets the job done and you don't have to worry about some loser 1 shoting you when you are low HP because the most you lose is like 10pp, and then the guy is encumbered so you can probably get revenge on him. And naked wizards are only good enough to kill 1 guy 1 time before they are OOM, they are easy and fun to hunt down and kill, so please don't give me that argument. And watching people run away and bag their gear is hilarious and embarrassing for them and means they are easier to kill since they are busy clicking away at their bags. Its just great. | ||
