![]() To whom it may concern,
Id like to say that the majority of my experiences with project 1999 have been awesome. Cheers to the developers for working hard on a game that has brought back so many fantastic memories. EQ's incentives let you explore interesting zones, delve into a deep quest/lore system, and kill crazy shit, all with the company of your friends. I can say this with confidence because I believe it to be true. And I think lots of other people have similar feelings towards the game and the community. However, now that I have spent a considerable amount of time leveling my old live character from back the day, a few things have come to light. Ive found that the incentives to enjoy such a great blessing in P1999 have shifted. As a lowbie starting out a few months back, meeting new people and striving for great gameplay and comraderie were commonplace. Yet it saddens me to see that the institution of tyrannical greed and lust for dominance has taken over. A server that has potential to harbor an honest to goodness group of a thousand or so fun loving gamers seems to be a haven for all kinds of ridiculous crap. What I find myself asking is how has my attitude towards EQ and games in general has evolved from growing older? I started playing when I was 16. Now im 22. I am genuinely interested in the people I meet and their experiences with the game, much less the experiences of my RL friends as well. Upon hearing about all of the exploitative, dramatic and unfair things being done by people on the server, I am extremely disheartened. To add fuel to the flames, people argue about it all right here on the boards. This whole thing kind of feels like seeing your favorite diorama/action figure plaything (1) dismantled for parts by your older brother because he wants to pawn them for a fake Rolex. Call me a noob. Call me Naieve, call me a carebear. Call me any negative or positive adjective/buzzword/internet/EQ lingo acronym thing thats been said on these boards a thousand times before. Cmon guys, the bickering is unnecessary. The game benefits wholly from maturity. Those who choose to use EQ as an outlet for a false sense of power, security, and general ass-hole-ery should just be ignored. This post was mean to be non-specific in terms of people and actions. I hope to have not offended anyone. It was not my intent to make blatant accusations by thinking about the bigger picture. Let me know what you think and I hope the Devs will too. Thanks a lot for reading. Citation 1. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Glydor Reborn 41st Shaman1999 Rodcet Nife | ||

![]() Ehh, you have 2 different dominant play styles on 1999 that have been going head to head since a few weeks after the server started. Both groups play for different reasons and there is no way to appease both groups simultaneously short of splitting the server. Neither group is correct or incorrect, just different

![]() EverQuest has always been about three things -
Exploration, Camping, and Raid Drama. In that order. This server is unique, in that almost anyone who returned to EQ a second time wants to experience the game content fully and on their own terms, in the same fashion they proably experienced it in whichever major guild they were in so many years ago. Every server had a top guild. Many of these players are from those many, many "top" guilds, and now they're all crammed on one server. What happened was inevitable.

![]() I guess I just dont see the appeal of hiding behind relative anonymity in EQ/the boards to extort/manipulate/flame/write about masturbatory conquests. And perhaps its not a matter of whose right and whose wrong, but the former is just plain 'wrong' on a different level. Like suppressing the need for potential psychotherapy wrong.

![]() When a number of different factions all want the same thing, conflicts form. That's how humans work.
It's often very easy to step back from a conflict and say, from a safe distance, that the people involved are insane to persist in their arguments. That too is human nature. There is always more to a war than the screaming protesters and the ethic they condemn. In short - mash anonymous people in a box, throw a pinata in there, and tally up the number of times they strike each other instead of the pinata. One number will be higher.

![]() Thank you Humwawa, to know that there is at least one other with some rational insights is reassuring. I can only hope that some individuals recognize this fact of nature regarding current p1999 EQ, and that the server can maintain a generally healthy community and playerbase. Until that end, I suppose it would be wise to not delve too deeply into the raid scene and the drama therein.

![]() Having fun playing and taking many of the posts on the forums too seriously aren't things that 'mesh' well.
While some have some burning desire for attention and post all kinds of "look at me, I'm cool" drivel... most here are having fun playing, I do believe. Most of the 'problem' players are likely just horribly starved for attention.
