Default Wizard Spell: Tears of Druzzil

Picked this spell up the other day and been playing around with it.

On single pulls this spell does 600 damage in 3 waves.

On single pulls w/ someones pet engaged on the mob it does 2 waves of 600 and you also get resist messages (I get from the pet)

On single pulls w/ an enchanter charmed pet + player pets you get 2 waves of 600 and 2 resist messages (from player pets)

and so on.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the mechanics but I think pet(s) cause only 2 waves instead of 3.

I have not tried it as an AoE spell yet.

Found source. More than one mob in the vicinity causes the waves to be reduced by 1.

But I find no mention of player pets reducing the AoE however.

Quote:
I love rain type spells. 3 hits for 600 a hit, and if there is only 1 mob in the radius, it gets all 3 hits.

Ice Comet costs 400mana, has about a 6 second cast time and is easily resisted (depending on mob) for over 1100 dmg.

Tears of Druzzil costs less, casts faster, and while possibly easier to resist, can do 1800 dmg to a single mob. And you can throw in another DD spell while it is still going.
(Of course, IC is more mana efficient if 2 of the 3 ToD hits gets resisted)

Note though, this will not work on a moving target. Even a snared creature travels too fast for the 2nd hit to get them. And as with all targetted AE spells, this will hit you if you are in range. So this is not to be used on mobs that you must be in melee range for your spells to be effective.
And as it is relatively easy to resist, I suggest you wait for your local conjurer to call "Malosi on" before you start playing.

I rarely use this as an AE attack. We prefer to play safe and Root or Mezmerize any adds if possible.

Going to revive this thread. Rains have the potential to be the most mana efficient spell in the game (depending on resists).

But they are incorrectly hitting pets (for full resists), and 'using up' some of the waves.

Please fix this so wizard sustained DPS can scale up from terrible to mostly terrible. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Pets counting as targets for your Rain spells is confirmed classic until a Velious patch. My evidence:

February 2001 Patch (2 months into Velious)

Quote:
Rain spells no longer count pets against total number of entities they can damage (all rain spells).

Ahh shucks, but at least that puts this to bed until Velious. Thanks.
