Starting up on Twitch.tv

Hey guys, are any of you good with the technicalities of Twitch?

I want to get a stream started but its not as easy (or "free") as I thought. Downloaded XSplit, was about to get set up, then found out I needed to buy a licence for $15.

Are there any free and decent alternatives out there? Greedy bastards.
