Question Building a 3.5//3.75 Battle Cleric

Shup turdsh.. So, a small group of my friends and I are about to start a new DnD campaign in the 'Forgotten Realms' universe and I would like to hear some opinions on my current build I have in mind, and just anything 'Battle Cleric' essentially. I have always played a Rogue like character and this is my first go at a Cleric.

We are going to be starting as some noble birth around the area of Vaasa. What I have in mind for my character is to be a military mastermind, and we want to continue what Zhengyi the Witch-King had started in that region, and take control of it all. We are playing an evil campaign obviously and we are planning to befriend some powerful allies, and destroy them for our own gain in one fell swoop. It's going to be quite the adventure if I do say so myself.

So here is my build; Take in mind that my DM gave me permission to change the goody goody stuff to evil and decay. This is what it will be when I am finished. We are starting around level 5-7. The 'Hand' class is what we are calling the anti version of the Fist class.

Lord Borrith Kyne "The Ordained Hand"
Human Battle Cleric of Hextor

5 Cleric//5 Ordained Champion//10 Hand of Hextor (Fist of Raziel)

Haven't rolled my stats yet, but we are using a point based system with 28 points that scale with modifier since we are going to be doing a lot of rough battles.

After reading for the past couple of days online, I haven't found jack shit about how to make an efficient Evil Cleric. I decided to look up the 'good' prestige classes and found that these all combined make exactly what I want. I want my character to be a ruthless battle machine that is a mastermind in military tactics and melee combat, all the way to politics. These classes combined make just that, or so I think anyway.

Does anyone have any suggestions as if I should take anything else and change it up a bit, or should I be good to go? It's been a while since I have played D&D//Pathfinder and if I forgot anything I need to have included about my character just gimme a hollar and I will add it.

Thanks guys,

RoK

Oh yeah, and I fucking love the Leadership feat. I am definitely taking that shit; Guaranteed. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I tried something like this in Neverwinter Nights 2. It's a bit tricky, but if you play your cards right you'll be one bad ass mofo.

Most of the time to be effective you have to do a TON of buffing to be effective melee. If I were a DM I would have at least one or two scripted suprises for that guy. Because I am a dick.

I have always wanted to play a damage absorber type cleric. I am sure there is an effective build to do buffing that raises armor/saves, and just run in with enough offensive harassment to force a monster to keep its attention on you.

Evil campaign, interesting. Sounds like your DM will have to start you out as a power gamer since you are focusing on large scale battles already. I am very envious that you have a group to play with though.

@Radditsu Yeah I plan to have my spells be pretty much set on enhancement, with a few heals in there of course. I really enjoy self enhancing classes.

@Knuckle Yeah, a lot of this session is going to be large battles. Our DM wants a huge part of it to be role-playing experience as well, not just fight after fight. We will be progressing like it would be in a book. We have the option to write stories during our down time to progress our characters even faster, so long as we are not in the middle of an active session that is.

We want to bring a "Game of Thrones" feel to this campaign. It's all quite exciting! If there wasn't so much to go into I would share it all, haha.

That is pretty cool you can 'advance' outside the game. One pro tip is to actually focus the writing effort into your characters development with small tasks that show his strength/weakness of character rather than how he acquired some new skill or powerful item. If you want your character to stand out for RP points make a character that people can relate to, not just a powerful politician.

But anyway I am also super jealous that not only do you have a DnD group, but you're in Forgotten realms where my favorite author made a kickass trilogy that im just about to start reading again at road of the patriarch.

Something you might consider;

Played in a game recently where the group was generally CG-NG, but we had a Deep Gnome Battle Cleric. This guy was throwing darts and wielding a pickaxe like a mofo, and had some really neat abilities due to his race. He couldn't turn undead, iirc, but if youre running evil, that may not be a problem so much. You might look into it.
