Need help running WinEQ2 with windows 8

[Amuck]

I have the Sony file, and the download of WinEQ2 on my laptop but when I go to path the WinEQ2 or even just start it up i get a message saying EQ needs a version of Directx, So I click OK. That takes me to a directx site to download the correct version, But as I read it, the system requirements mention windows 7, vista, xp etc. No mention of windows 8 on there. Is this safe to download or will it fuck with all my windows 8 shit. This is a new laptop and I am still barely getting a hang of windows 8. If anyone could message me on here or even call me to resolve this issue, I would be stoked. I am not that computer savvy but i am also not a complete idiot
