Default Can't get past serve select

Guys, I want to play this game so bad, and have been wanting to for a loooong time, I gave up a couple months back and am tryin again. I believe I have found out a possibility to why I'm getting the error 1017, my internet connection isn't fast enough, im using Wild Blue which is just a little bit faster than dial-up. Can someone please help me get to the bottom of this. I've tried all other solutions, resolution change, tried windowed mode, I've checked my eqhost and all that stuff, I've installed and uninstalled 23 times, I've read on some other forums that my ping was to low (meaning crappy internet connection)
Mine currently reads:
Minimum - 1439ms, Maximum = 1994ms, Average 1596ms
I know ive done the setup right, so I'd like some different explanations and ideas rather than reinstall and check my eqhost carefully and go through the setup carefully, if I can't get things up and running within the next 3 days I guess I'm just gona give up, not worth 5 to 6 hours a day.

I can make it to the server select screen then when i click to play the screen just goes black and sits there for ever till it says not responding. Have you come up with a solution yet?

I played flawlessly for months..stopped in August and have spent a few hours the last two days trying to play again. On occasion if I do get into game, my pc locks when I try to zone. Any ideas?

Have you changed your vid card drivers? That could cause an issue.

What's your native desktop resolution?

open up eqclient.ini and change the windowed/fullscreen resolution to your native desktop resolution. If that doesn't work, try running the came in compatability mode and 640 x 480 resolution. If that doesn't work press alt + enter some time before the server select screen.

If that doesn't work, uninstall and try again. The lag shouldn't be an issue. I remember playing EQ on dialup with few problems.

What OS, video card, and processor do you have?
