Unhappy New guy with problems

Hey all,

Played EQ Classic for years beginning in 2000.
Returned to Sony EQ a few months ago and heard about 1999 so I came here to relive the old school feel.
Now the trouble begins.
I just built a new system about 2 months ago. i7, Asus MB, 32G Ram, 256x2 SSD in Raid 0, 2x680GTX in SLI.. all watercooled.
It rocks and I can play almost anything on max (monitor is 2560x1600)
I dig out my old Titanium disks and load them up. Downloaded the EQEmuLauncher and ran it, after setting compatibility mode and run as admin.
EQEmu updated to 1.24 and when I selected Project1999 server it updated some files.
Ok.. launch the game. Short wait and screen goes white then I get an error message.

EQ Error.jpg

Thougth I may have messed up some permissions etc. so I set "full control" to the entire folder, then downloaded DirectX9.0 and installed just to make sure.
Same error.
Uninstalled all, rebooted and installed again.
Same error.

Anyone seen something like this before?
Could my SLI be causing problems?

Puzzled.

Try reinstalling and placing the program somewhere other than "Program Files."

I normally make a "Games" folder in C:\Users\Public and put all my stuff there.

YMMV

It looks suspiciously like a video error, though.

Tried running the game without using the eq launcher?

basically what (it seems to me) is happening is that EQ isnt detecting your ram properly - it isnt registering you have enough available ram to run the game. i know that there are ways around this for older games, but im not at home on my pc so i am not able to look anything up right now.

using that info i hope you can find a solution - a few smart google searches should give you a couple options.

Instruction cannot be read errors can be caused by bad memory, faulty CPU, bad drivers, hardware conflicts, crappy programming, and fluke luck (to name a few causes.)

Yeah...I've seen this type of error with drivers before. Check your RAM first...after that it's a crapshoot.

a little hint, that can save everyone... When running the launcher when setting the 'resolution' you want make ti 800x600.

Then once you are in the game , set it to w.e you want. It will fix the issue. Glad I could help

I had this problem before, think it's same error, and it turned out to be due to the resolution eq was trying to launch at. Try editing your eqclient.ini with notepad, just look for [VideoMode] and set the window height and widths at your computers native resolution. Hope this helps.

Hey all,
Thanks for the help and suggestions.
I installed to D:\Everquest1999 so program files was not a problem.
I did the resolution trick in eqclient.ini. Set it to 2560x1600 then tried half at 1280x800, neither helped. (Will try 800x600 just to see) Tried launching using eqgame.exe using a short cut with patchme and patchme -w. No joy but it did seem to load more. actually got a full screen window albeit white and then crash with error.
I finally copied the directory onto a USB and took it in the living room and loaded onto my laptop. launched and played with out trouble.
Could be some software conflict because I loaded some strange software on this machine when I first built it. Basically to test the watercooling and benchmarks. I should have wiped it clean and started over.
Too late tonight but will do it tomorrow or the weekend.

Classic EQ is a lot harder than I remember. No merc, no sow pots, no crack pots.. wow.. but we had fun and it really brought back the memories.
Made an enchanter and friend made a mage. We managed to take down some reds by bouncing agro and pets. Died a few times but hey.. it's old school EQ.
Tomorrow.. Blackburrow here we come!! (I miss the howling and the trains)

Thanks all.
